Position Summary

This role will oversee media relations and our global earned media strategy and efforts. It requires a seasoned professional with experience working in a matrix organization and managing large-scope, high-visibility projects. This is a leadership role, steering the Corporate Affairs team, and reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer. #LI-HB1 #LI-Hybrid

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a dynamic and high-performing team.
  • Strategic thinking, including envisioning and developing short and long-term proactive media relations efforts for reputation-driving initiatives on an international scale.
  • An advanced level of pitching and responding to incoming media requests in a timely manner with an ability to influence earned media reporting.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain media contacts, including journalists, editors, thought leaders, and allied organizations at local and national levels.
  • Develop and execute crisis communications and rapid issues-response work.
  • Develop executive-facing media messaging and briefing materials and provide counsel for on-the-record interviews and media responses.
  • Audit, manage, and leverage tools that enable media monitoring; measuring the impact of our activities, and adjust strategies as necessary to optimize results.
  • Monitor and assess media coverage and industry trends and provide insights and analysis to senior leadership.
  • Engage and collaborate across the Bechtel enterprise to ensure an integrated approach for external media communications.
  • Champion Bechtel and our VV&Cs in managing our presence in the communities where we live and work.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7+ years of prior experience working at an agency, news outlet, on corporate communications teams, or policy communications team.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of developing and leading an external content reputation management program using media, blogs, print, video, social media, and advertising.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Motivated to proactively identify opportunities and execute strategic plans.
  • Promote a collaborative working environment.
  • Ability to work closely with senior leaders and work effectively across the organization.
