Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.

This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery next year.

The candidate will act as the Field Engineer (Civil) on the upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, Houston, or Cheyenne, WY, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne. This position is contingent upon project award.

Job Summary:

The Construction Lead Piping Field Engineer is responsible for activities of the piping field engineering team relating to construction engineering within the piping discipline. Duties include interpreting piping design drawings and specifications, piping installation/fabrication including pipe hangers and inline piping components, field verification of materials, and technical direction to field piping personnel as required. #LI-KL1 #LI-Onsite

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the piping discipline such as underground and above ground piping installation and pipe supports
  • Coordinate with engineering and procurement for the planning of modularization efforts and sequencing of design and procurement to meet project Advance Work Packaging programs
  • Establish a piping design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer, including agreement on piping engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting for piping discipline
  • Specify the piping criteria for the construction of temporary construction facilities as required
  • Direct the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment such as pipes, valves and hangers
  • Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct piping materials
  • Coordinate and monitor the interfaces for piping data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the jobsite
  • Develop and manage the piping construction quality program
  • Direct preparation of cost estimates for piping construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports
  • Plan and recommend piping procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications
  • Coordinate activities to ensure piping materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications
  • Implement controls over variables affecting piping job progress such as such as piping installation and receipt to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and ensure that other corporate programs are fully utilized
  • Administer major subcontract changes regarding the piping discipline and represent the company in major contractual discussions and negotiations
  • Aid the development of hydro packages and verify and witness hydro acceptance
  • Validate and submit (discipline) construction quantities for Quantity Unit Rate Report (QURR) tracking
  • Interface with Project Controls for submittal of quantities to ePCWorks

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience on combined cycle facilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modularization of piping and pipe racks, above ground & below ground piping systems and line testing preferred.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
