Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
This position is for a Geotechnical Engineer who will provide field support as needed, originate and check analytical calculations and numerical modeling, specifications and reports associated with various projects. The successful candidate will report to the Poland AP1000 project group supervisor, or their designee. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. The successful candidate is expected to be assigned to the Poland AP1000 project. The selected candidate may be expected to travel to the job site and other Bechtel and client offices in the U.S. and abroad for periods of time ranging from a few days to several months.

Major Responsibilities:
This role will require field and office support of geotechnical investigations, review of site and subsurface geotechnical investigations data, originate geotechnical engineering designs and specifications, and prepare geotechnical studies in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The work will require coordinating with other geotechnical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment and may include the following scope:

- Ground Investigation specification(s), borehole location plan, bill of quantities and related subcontract documents
- Geotechnical design parameters for soil and/or rock supported foundations
- Bearing capacity and settlement calculations
- Soil liquefaction assessments and mitigation
- Ground improvement design and installation
- Pile design and installation
- Foundation settlement analysis
- Soil and/or rock slope stability analyses
- Soil and/or rock excavations support calculations
- Engineering specifications including earthworks, piling, ground improvement, soil and/or rock excavation support, etc.
- Technical memo, study, and report writing
- Vendor submittal review and integration into the design solution
- Budget and schedule tracking and quality compliance
- Coordination with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team
Education and Experience Requirements:
- An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university or college and minimum 3 years of progressive related experience or a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering and minimum 1 year of progressive related experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, performing site and subsurface geotechnical investigations, geotechnical engineering designs and specifications, and preparing geotechnical calculations and studies for nuclear power plants.
- Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
- Knowledge of the application of geotechnical engineering design principles.
- Engineer-in-Training in US (Geotechnical or related Engineering).
- Knowledge of site and subsurface investigation, development of engineering properties of soil and rock, foundation design and analysis, foundation analysis under dynamic loads and earthworks
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including those related to the nuclear industry
