Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will assist with conducting geologic and materials explorations and preparing maps and technical reports. You will participate in ground investigating, sample logging, material testing, groundwater measuring, and presenting findings. Your work will help address technical problems and contribute to the safety of personnel and structures during drilling and sampling operations.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-SNH
Major Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of a more senior geologist, conducts geologic and materials explorations for the preparation of technical reports for such engineering features as dams, dikes, canals, bridges, power plants, refineries, pipelines, pumping plants, mining facilities, transportation and infrastructure facilities, roads, and tunnels.
- Participates in ground investigation programs and addresses technical problems, including determining required drilling equipment to properly conduct site investigations and ensuring safety of personnel and structures during drilling and sampling operations.
- Coordinates with engineers to determine what geologic investigations are necessary.
- Collects and summarizes groundwater measurements and instrumentation data.
- Prepares specifications and geologic drawings for engineering project.
- Participates in project meetings to present geologic findings.
- Logs drill core, auger hole samples, test pit materials, and surface geologic exposures.
- Maps surface geology and exposures in construction excavations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires master's degree in Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, or other related Geosciences discipline and 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Requires either United States Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card Holder) to be considered for employment.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency with geology software for aquifer test analyses and groundwater flow and transport models, including but not limited to AQTESOLV, MODFLOW, and MT3D.
- Proficiency in geological and geotechnical data management and visualization (e.g., Leapfrog, OpenGround, etc.).
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, computer graphics, and other appropriate computer applications to facilitate the compilation and analysis of data collection activities.
- Ability to resolve technical issues with other geologists, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, regulatory agencies, and the client.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel and remain at jobsites for an extended time.
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
