Project Information:

Bechtel is leading the effort on a firm fixed price design-build project that will replace the existing U.S. Embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with new state of the art facilities and structures. The new embassy is part of the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO) mission to provide safe, secure, and functional facilities that represent the U.S. Government to the host nation and support our government in achievement of the U.S. foreign policy objectives.

Position Overview:

This position is for an Engineering Automation and Digital Delivery Engineer to be a member of the Automation and Digital Delivery team who will develop, manage, organize, and verify complex design information, within a model based integrated digital engineering environment. Team member will be in Reston, Virginia supporting the multi-discipline design team that will be in the New Delhi, India office to prepare the design for the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  In addition, the position will be coordinating with the various engineering design firms, one of which will be responsible for generated the federated model, located out of Washington, D.C.


The successful candidate must have strong organization and teamwork skills, problem-solving abilities, and able to effectively communicate with all stakeholders and our government client. This role will specifically support the Design and Procurement phase based primarily within the United States and will not transition to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, frequent business trips will be required to the New Delhi office throughout the design phase, specifically for the first six to seven months of the effort may be required.


Position is contingent upon receiving a Notice of Award for the Riyadh Embassy forecasted to occur in the fall of 2022.



This position will be responsible for executing assignments concerned with delivering an engineering design in an integrated digital environment including executing engineering design, and modeling of physical characteristics and design information.


This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and may involve development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions. The candidate will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines, subcontracted engineering design firms, and the client in the development of the Project Information in the shared digital engineering environment. 


This role will be responsible for:

  • Responsible for developing content to support the creation of the project-specific Building Information Model (BIM) Execution Plan (BEP), and the management of the Project Information in a coordinated and high-quality manner according to the BEP and the project information requirements
  • Executes work to an engineering automation and building information modeling estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Provides cross-functional coordination and methods of integration in alignment with Project Delivery Program, including, but not limited to, 3D Model Development, 4D Integrated Schedule, Integrated Digital Environment (IDE) alignment, 5D Integrated Cost, and support the development of an innovative culture
  • Responsible for supporting the development of the Project Information Model within the Integrated Digital Environment including design models, drawings, and other non-graphical data
  • Supports the coordination of any formal or informal design (model) reviews with key stakeholders
  • Assures technical adequacy of work products in accordance with company procedures, contract, and industry codes and standards
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned actions to self and shows initiative in problem solving
  • Interfaces with construction execution and modeling tools to facilitate design solutions and construction implementation
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment with limited oversight
  • Supports maintaining the Building Information Model, and corresponding Project Information
  • Keep up to date on best practice BIM implementation methodologies
  • Supports the administration and maintenance of the project BIM Content Library, Standards, Methods & Protocols.
  • Supports the Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) in setting up the necessary application integration and data exchange requirements for the project
  • Responsible for coordinating the Bechtel model with the Main Design firm to generate a federated model and then distributing to the Bechtel engineering disciplines on a bi-weekly basis
  • Continually seeks ways in which the Project Information can be utilized to support the project and drive efficiency in processes
  • Supports BIM Manager with BIM delivery responsibilities and providing project BIM training and support as required
  • Responsible for integrating vendor information, construction as-built information, and final as installed information into Building Information Model
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team
  • Maintains alignment and coordinates model information relative to engineered characteristics


Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level One: BS degree in Engineering, Construction, Computer Science, or Information Management, from an accredited university, with at least 9 years of relevant experience; or in lieu of degree, 15+ years of experience
  • Level Two: BS degree in Engineering, Construction, Computer Science, or Information Management, from an accredited university, with at least 13 years of relevant experience; or in lieu of degree, 19+ years of experience
  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain within 6 months of selection


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Desire to learn new skills and develop capabilities in digital delivery and engineering automation
  • Advanced training and experience using Revit MEP, including Architectural interface, drawing generation, family creation, view templates, design options, and phasing
  • Experience in 3D Solid Modeling and Design Engineering
  • Experience developing custom REVIT families
  • Strong technical writing skills (writing technical instructions, procedures, etc.)
  • Experience with Material Take-offs & model data management/extraction
  • Experience in Modeling of mechanical or electrical commodities and equipment in a 3D Revit model environment.
  • Experience in digital delivery of Engineering Procurement and Construction Projects, and management of Project Information in a digital delivery environment
  • Experience participating in 3D Model Reviews
  • Experience with BIM and CAD tools and methodologies (e.g., Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc)
  • Experience extracting data from automation tools for use by project stakeholders
  • Experience setting up and configuring BIM and CAD and automation tools
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities, maximize efficiency, manage priorities


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience executing a Bechtel EPC project using REVIT and integrating the model with the other Bechtel BSAP’s (Agile, Team Works, Inspec, etc.) and the back-end development activities necessary to perform that integration
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000
  • Experience working with government agencies, preferably the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO) or the Department of Defense (DOD)
  • Experience with ProjNET and DrChecks
  • Experience executing design under a lump-sum or Firm Fixed Price contract
  • Experience coordinating with A/E design firms and subcontractors throughout the design and procurement phases to ensure model and end deliverables contain necessary information for installation
  • Design experience with Department of Defense (DOD) or Overseas Building Operations (OBO) Division 1 specifications
  • Experience working within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) functions with a strong understanding of cross-functional EPC work processes and the applications used for project execution
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards
  • Experience with Material/Service Requisitions including DSCS/Agile/E&PI or BPS
