Job Summary

Bechtel is seeking an Engineering Automation Coordinator for the Manufacturing and Technology team, based to Project Cardinal. This role will part of the Project Information and Innovation Team, and will report to the EPC Automation Lead. It will be responsible for coordinating and leading without authority and ensuring the implementation, integration, transfers of models and data delivery and work being performed in multiple offices supports cross functional and client driven requirements. It will ensure engingeering data and automation work processes support Procurement, Construction Advanced Work Packaging, Startup/Commissioning, and Client Asset Management goals. The candidate will have extensive experience in engineering automation on medium to large EPC projects and be able to provide input identifying and implementing Engineering applications and integration opportunities to maximize the benefits to the project.



  • Assist and support implementation of EPC automation integrations to project
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure implementation of Project Automation Plan, Project Information and Innovation Plan, and BIM Execution Plan
  • Support end user training for all Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Client tools processes and data requirements
  • Interprets new or special governmental regulations, engineering codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
  • Coordinates software integration with 3rd Party design teams, engineering teams across multiple geographic locations (Home office, India Office, Site Resident Engineering team), Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Client Commissioning/Operations
  • Provides guidance and direction to specialty engineering or field personnel in the development and/or application of design criteria and design specifications
  • Conducts or leads, as requested, special studies on economic feasibility, new technologies, methods or materials
  • Serves as a thought leader/change agent to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on software application and design features
  • Assist to entire project engineering team and PIIM team in contacting other functions, offices and software vendors, as required in order to resolve and support engineering automation matters
  • Conducts research, presents papers and keeps abreast of technological development in a specialty, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances
  • Assists in the development and coordination of special technical education and training programs for Company personnel and/or clients
  • Document and understand all integration points with external systems
  • Implements and recommends changes to the BIM Execution Plan
  • Develops and maintains BIM Execution Plan for life-cycle of the project
  • Develop & coordinates training requirements to support project execution plan
  • Establishes & monitors service levels in support of customer community
  • Reviews and approves project specific engineering automation plans
  • Initiates and creates/manages Power BI reporting for engineering data quality and delivery metrics in support project schedule and requirements
  • Actively seeks out opportunities to improve the enterprise through knowledge gained, lessons learned and implementation of same
  • Willingness to learn and apply effective skills in support of other project automation initiatives (DSC, Powerapps, PowerBI, Drones/GIS, etc)


Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years experience in Application Support or equivalent IT / EPC function
  • BE / B. Tech / MCA or equivalent Scientific or Engineering Degree


Additional Qualifications

  • Leads expert automation support and coordination to project
  • Directs and manages implementation of BSAPs
  • Deep understanding of Database structures and application architecture for supporting Engineering Applications. Familiarity with Oracle, SQL Server, Access databases
  • Thorough understanding of Data exchanges and integration. Ability to troubleshoot data flow issues within applications
  • Expertise in Engineering related applications like SmartPlant 3D, SmartPlant Foundation, SmartPlant P&D, SmartPlant Instrumentation. Experience with Hexagon SmartPlant suite of products. Additional experience with 4D implementation and Autodesk modeling tools and visualization is desirable
  • Knowledge of Adapters and APIs for data integration with other applications Eg. S3D, Aconex, SPPID, Revit, etc
  • Knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs), and Engineering Design Procedures (EDPs)
  • Familiarity with Data analytics and reporting; working knowledge of PowerBI, SSRS etc.
  • Knows how to perform complex engineering analyses and develop complex engineering deliverables
  • Familiar with the effort required to prepare complex discipline deliverables and knows how to prepare complex engineering budgets and schedules within the discipline
  • Work Experience in similar capacity with thorough understanding of the job
  • Experience in Bechtel EPC projects: Engineering, Procurement, Construction
  • Working knowledge of programming in VB.NET and SQL
  • Knowledge of Datacentric concepts and applications
  • Travel to Reston office, Client Offices, and Project sites as needed to support successful project execution in hybrid working assignment
