Corporate strategy and business development has the primary responsibility for identifying, evaluating and recommending new business opportunities for Bechtel.  The Strategy & Business Development function will be the corporate-level base group for Bechtel's strategy and business development professionals investing in talent development, work practice implementation, team engagement, diversity and inclusion.  We support our global business units as they work to expand their impact with customers and achieve goals for new work.       


Role Overview

The Corporate Strategist will be an active leader of strategic planning initiatives with particular focus on activities that impact the medium and long term performance of Bechtel.    Leads business development improvement initiatives so that our strategy planning efforts are actively connected to the GBUs and their near term focus.   The Corporate Strategist will possess the following leadership behaviors aligned with Bechtel’s Behavioral Framework:

Job Duties:

  • Works alongside the Corporate Manager of S&BD and Corporate Manager of Strategy to achieve S&BD’s objectives and build our company for the long term.
  • Leads task teams to conduct deep dives on countries, companies or prospects, evaluating the market opportunity and potential fit for Bechtel.
  • Flexes from mid and long term analysis of new business opportunities to near and mid term initiatives to support the GBUs and improve impact in existing businesses.   Leads independent efforts but also frequently works alongside GBU BD and General Management teams.
  • Leads strategy deep dive topics for presentation at the Operating Committee that may include end markets, geographies, customers, competitors or technology.  Works with the analyst team to develop content and works in a cross GBU environment to garner input and support for analysis and recommendations.
  • Conducts competitor benchmarking, gathers & analyzes industry intelligence, build customers and country knowledge databanks and recommends actions or counteractions to improve Bechtel’s position in new or existing markets.. 
  • Synthesizes information from multiple sources to generate insights and recommendations on business strategies and opportunities for Bechtel.  Actively communicates findings, insights and recommendations on a timely basis and global scale which include but not limited to market trends, customers plan, technology. trends etc..
  • Develops and maintains situational analysis for Bechtel’s current and potential businesses, markets and customers to support ongoing strategic planning and execution.
  • Build strong relationships with GBU BD teams to provide analysis, seek guidance, support  and insight in a collaborative manner to  provide  benefit and synergy from cross GBU or other GBU efforts.
  • Operates in an agile environment and uses knowledge of strategic planning, business development and our business structure to support functional development initiatives ranging from work practice improvement to talent development.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 7 years of related experience, MBA Highly desired.
  • Experience working outside the United States
  • Experience working in project execution
  • Demonstrated capability in analytics with the ability to gather and interpret organizational data


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity while attending to multiple stakeholders, a variety of concurrent projects, and firm deadlines.
  • Experience in an International or Overseas assignment outside of the United States
