Project Overview:

About the GPD Team:

Established in early 2026 through the combination of three separate Bechtel Enterprises teams focused on renewable, thermal and nuclear power, respectively, the GPD team seeks to be responsive to market demands for both firm and intermittent power resources, following market signals without internal preference for a particular generation technology. The GPD strategy is focused primarily on developments in the U.S., but certain other global markets could be in scope, so long as there is clear, upfront alignment with the strategy of the relevant Bechtel Global Business Unit (GBU). The GPD team develops projects with the aim of recovering development costs, earning a development fee and securing on behalf of Bechtel the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the developed project.

Job Summary:

Joining the GPD team as a Development Manager focused primarily on thermal and solar generation project development is an opportunity to be an important member of a growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible business venture within a well-funded corporation. We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to support power project development and financing across the U.S. and in some cases, globally.  This role will work closely with Bechtel’s GBUs that deliver power plants as a core aspect of their strategies.

The position will be responsible for managing the full suite of development activities for active projects and supporting the prospecting / consortium-building efforts required for new projects.   Activities will include site identification, financial modeling and analysis, interconnection and transmission work, project permitting and licensing, and community engagement. The position will work closely with our internal power marketing/origination, project finance, legal, and EPC teams as the team’s projects advance to a final notice to proceed to construction.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Advance development of multiple power projects from early stage to financial close, taking ownership of key workstreams
  • Support identification of new power development prospects and opportunities (primarily co-developments), including conducting market assessments and fatal flaw analyses, building consortia, and participating in-person site reconnaissance
  • Assist in financial analysis, modeling, pricing and offtake structuring
  • Assist in delivering project bids and project financing, including reviewing commercial agreements, analyzing potential finance structures, developing partnership structures and teaming arrangements, and preparing qualifications and proposals
  • Lead local, state, regional, and/or federal permitting processes
  • Negotiate key contracts and agreements
  • Manage tasks according to, and with accountability for, budget and schedule
  • Represent Bechtel with partners, customers, landowners, government officials, community leaders, utilities, and other stakeholders

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance-related field
  • 8 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in key disciplines in the infrastructure / power sector – development, investment, financing, research, or four to five years of relevant experience combined with an advanced degree in business or other relevant field of study

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience interfacing directly with external parties such as lenders, utilities, offtakers, government officials, and consultants
  • Ability to identify prospects and opportunities and understand markets and offtake structures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization, networking, time management, and accounting skills
  • Willingness to travel as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with project engineering and EPC teams
  • Experience in power project development activities
  • Experience in multiple U.S. markets such as ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP and WECC
