Americas Aviation Regional Manager

Based preferably in Reston but could be based in one of Bechtel’s major US urban center offices (LA/NY), the candidate will primarily have aviation business development skills, as well as aviation master planning, design development, project management, airfield/terminal operations, commercial structuring, ORAT, and organizational build-up experience. Ideally will be a candidate with experience and contacts in the US aviation sector.

The role is to develop a pipeline of work in North America and have a key role in winning prospects in the Americas – this role will continue in the front-end development of opportunities in the region.

The role will report to the Americas Business Development Manager on a day to day basis and the Global Aviation Sector Manager.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Identify opportunities in the aviation sector early-on, to open dialogue with customers and provide input to delivery models that best adapt to customers’ key buying factors.
  • Provide aviation technical input to winning work in the Americas.
  • Develop technical and commercial solutions to customer’s requirements in the support of bids and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and securing complex business development opportunities and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with airport management, investors, developers, and operators in the early stages of expansion and capital investment programs to define technical, commercial and economic business development and delivery solutions.
  • Work on projects through mobilization / first 3-6 months in support of the project teams in the transition from prospect to live project.
  • Be the technical expert for aviation with the region and represent Bechtel at industry conferences as a thought leader.
  • Develop, implement and communicate the region’s aviation business development strategy.
  • Provide business advice and information to the Americas Regional Business Development Manager.
  • Meet potential customers by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Work with the business development team to develop proposals that speak to the customer’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and communication of business strategic plans.
  • Identify key resources internally and externally to form delivery teams that are responsive to winning propositions based on customers’ key buying factors.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent along with a minimum of 10-15 years’ of relevant experience and a minimum of 10 years of recent aviation experience.
  • Must have technical experience either in aviation master planning, engineering, or airport operations.
  • Must have the authorization to work in the USA.
  • Self-starter, adaptable and flexible to a broad range of responsibilities within the US aviation market place.
  • Proven ability in delivering aviation transformation or new build projects.
  • A high degree of knowledge and application of technology and innovation in operational airports and in the development of solutions for delivering aviation capacity.
  • Detailed knowledge of the key technical and commercial drivers behind the development and delivery of airport infrastructure, from inception and business planning through to construction delivery, including the provision of technical and operational advice for the development, design, and delivery of major airports projects.
  • Must have a strong level of business acumen.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve issues through negotiation and consultation and the ability to deal with sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize work, to deal with competing demands, manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and the ability to become an effective user of new computer systems.


  • Diploma or higher-level qualification in leadership or management.
  • Exposure to managing information technology infrastructure.
  • Experience in facilitating change in the workplace.
  • Experience with international experience in winning and delivering aviation brownfield expansion.
