As an Electrical Engineer at Bechtel, you'll support and coordinate with all other disciplines and lead the design of electrical power systems and equipment for a variety of industry projects.


The total number of hires and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and may include Houston, TX or Reston, VA, along with various project sites.


General Job Duties:

This entry level position will allow you to perform assignments that will develop professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of applicable codes and standards, as well as engineering calculations and techniques, procedures and criteria. You will exercise limited, but increasing, judgment in performing your assigned duties using methods prescribed by your supervisor.


Electrical Engineer

The various electrical tasks demand detail-oriented individuals with multifaceted skills, particularly in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, enthusiasm for individual and team tasks, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.


Typical Activities

  • Prepare single-line, metering and relaying, schematics, and protection logic drawings
  • Perform electrical system, equipment sizing, and auxiliary system calculations
  • Size, select, and specify transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and distribution panels
  • Size, select, and specify power, control, and instrumentation cables
  • Size, select, and specify direct-current/uninterruptible power supplies and emergency generator systems
  • Perform raceway, grounding, lighting, and cathodic protection designs


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of graduation date. 
  • Must be willing to relocate to project or job site.
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.


Required Qualifications

  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Proficient in computer applications and operating systems
  • Good automation, data entry, and report preparation skills
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of graduation date.
  • Preferred Electrical Power Systems Courses
  • Prior engineering experience through part time work or previous internships
