Project Overview:

Bechtel are recruiting for individuals to help deliver a critical defence infrastructure project in the Plymouth area of the UK. You will be part of a team entrusted with the success of what is a high-profile and nationally important undertaking, working in a highly collaborative partnership with our client and supply chain colleagues. Our responsibilities span engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, delivered with a focus on safety, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and modern engineering and construction methodologies. Experience of the defence and nuclear sectors can be helpful, but we are equally interested in the ability of candidates to apply broader experiences in a new environment. 

Time will be split between the Plymouth site and remote working as workload requires. 

Candidates must be UK nationals due to site security requirements including the need to have or obtain SC clearance. 

Job Summary:

  • Assists teams to incorporate ES&H requirements, evaluates and applies risk management principles, and acts as site safety coordinator/inspector. 
  • Provides ES&H technical assistance to other project personnel.
  • Guides, coaches, and motivates others to implement ES&H policies and standards.
  • Promotes integrity, technical competence, and commitment to ES&H.

 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership

Major Responsibilities:

  • Reviews work packages method statements and risk assessments. 
  • Works with Engineering, Procurement and Construction to ensure that ES&H requirements are incorporated into designs, processes, and procedures.
  • Undertakes daily monitoring of work practices of construction contractors.
  • Attends meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to communicate on ES&H requirements and lessons learned.
  • Conducts project incident investigations and notifications; documents factors contributing to an incident and ensures the preparation of required reports.
  • Supports project/site HSE committee and facilitates the craft-based leadership program.
  • Coordinates inspection tours by senior management.
  • Delivers ES&H training to project personnel.
  • Ensures environmental compliance of construction activities to contractual commitments, permits, and the Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
  • Reviews Emergency response plans including rescue, emergency transportation, and evacuation for foreseeable incidents and observes regular drills and exercises.
  • Supports occupational health specialists in delivery of D&A testing, occupational health screening, case management and wellness activities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate.
  • Experience in Health safety and Environment compliance inspection/assessment during construction.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of ES&H management systems, principles, terminology, and methodologies.
  • Construction site experience.
