Project Description:

Jubail is one of Bechtel’s most remarkable achievements—a city built from the sand up, requiring vast resources and logistical planning on an unprecedented scale. It the biggest civil engineering project in modern times—and it's getting bigger. Bechtel has managed the Jubail project, located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, since it began in the mid-1970s. Bechtel serves as the Management Services Contractor (MSC), or “owner’s representative” for our client, the Royal Commission (RC). We are the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) managers, managing design submissions from local AE firms, and overseeing the actual construction work being performed by local contractors and sub-contractors in Jubail and Ras-Al-Khair Industrial Cities. In June 2021, Bechtel’s contract with the Royal Commission was renewed for another 5 years with work focusing on building new residential communities, iconic buildings/ bridges, major site preparation, commercial buildings, mosques, schools, hospitals, sports facilities, clinics, universities, utility services and infrastructure (electrical sub-stations, lift stations), roads and highways, port & pipeline expansions, and more.

 

Work Location: Ras-Al-Khair. The work location for this position is at Ras-Al-Khair which is located about 100 KMS north of Jubail Industrial City. You will be required to commute Jubail - Ras-Al-Khair - Jubail daily using the available transportation facility /shuttle bus service.

 

Major Responsibilities

  •  Review submitted Architectural/ Landscape submittals at each phase for compliance with required Codes and Standards, RC Guiding Engineering Manual (GEM latest edition) , Life safety, ADA accessibility, Sustainability and LEED commissioning.
  • Review packages for constructability, design solutions, and technical soundness.
  • Perform site visits, support construction and contracts department, including interdisciplinary support-collaboration within the engineering department.
  • In-house design and construction assignments are possible.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of engineering design activities, systems integration, and all work performed by third party A/E firms.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and engage them in formal or informal settings to help them advance their careers.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential Technical: 

  • Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from an recognized, accredited college or university with minimum 10 years proven major project experience with hands on experience.
  • Professional Architect (or Landscape Architect) Registration and/ or internationally recognized Professional Architects Registration from elsewhere.
  • Practical work experience sufficient to demonstrate competence and breadth in landscape architectural design.
  • Experienced with managing knowledge of sustainability, and its integration into the landscape design as well as the construction buildings.
  • Experience across 1) building design; 2) building interiors design; and 3) landscape architecture design.
  • Experience with sustainable design and the LEED commissioning process will be highly regarded. LEED certified professional is required.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred Technical:

  • Industrial Architectural design and construction experience in Plant Buildings (e.g. District Cooling and Sub-Stations), Factories and Warehouses is preferred, or their undeniable a technical equivalents, thereof.
  • Technical skills and proficiencies in both standard and specialist computer programs such as: Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Infraworks, Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup, 3DSMax, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, Land FX, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • EPC, P&C and Design-Build experience with respect to technical review of third party and/or consultant design and construction packages. The review and approval/ rejection of shop drawings and other technical submittals is a requirement.
  • Construction field experience: (Site visits and reports may be required periodically)
  • Familiarity with Industrial and Community land-use planning.
  • Buildings: Exterior and Interior Design; Strong technical knowledge of architectural detailing, finish materials selection, building structural systems, inter-disciplinary coordination and processes on projects with a high degree of complexity.
  • Landscape Architecture Design: Creative and analytical skills necessary to design built and natural environments; incorporating aesthetic and functional elements to create visually appealing and sustainable landscapes; survey sites to ensure structural and ground stability (with geo-technical); perform environmental impact assessments; advise on matters of environmental conservation; populate planting schedules to maintain style, beauty and health. Assist the requirements for irrigation water supply networks and planting consumption demand; collaborate with RC Landscape and Irrigation Department, local regulatory committees and legal organizations (e.g. MEWA) to understand requirements for conservation, water use and public safety.
  • Capable of reading and understanding design drawings, vendor design packages, specifications and applying industry standards and best practice on construction projects.
  • A strong understanding of interfacing discipline requirements including Civil, Structural, Electrical/ Telecom and Mechanical.
  • Experience with BIM platform will be highly regarded.
  • Construction and Contract Administration experience.
