Project Overview:
The Cheniere Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) Project is a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export facility located on the north shore of Corpus Christi Bay in Gregory, Texas. The 1,000+ acre facility started bulk early works in July 2015 as the first greenfield export facility in the United States. Bechtel has successfully and safely completed construction and it now consists of three operating Trains process with an LNG production capacity of approximately 15 million tons per year (MTPA), three LNG storage tanks with combined capacity of 480,000 cubic meters of LNG, 2 Jetty superstructures that can accommodate the world’s largest vessels, and dozens of associated buildings and utilities.
Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project Stage 3 (CCL3) is a new phase at the existing CCL facility and will consist of seven midscale liquefaction trains with an LNG production capacity of approximately 10 MTPA, and associated infrastructure including utilities. CCL3 will perform all this work predominantly on a direct hire basis with support from only a few specialty and service subcontractors.
Job Summary:
The Startup Mechanical Specialist will be responsible for providing technical guidance to the CSU and Operations teams during commissioning, startup, and initial operation. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule if required, including, but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
This position requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections often in a high heat and high humidity environment including: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
Major Responsibilities:
- Support disciplines within CSU and the Operations team during Installation, Commissioning, and Startup, in order to maximize system reliability and availability.
- Provides technical support of equipment performance during commissioning and startup.
- Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into every aspect of Commissioning/Startup activities. Actively participates in safety programs.
- Receives operational surveillance, administrative supervision and technical guidance from commissioning and startup management. Objectives are defined, and results are subject to supervisory review.
- Establishes and maintains contacts with client, supplier, regulatory bodies, project management, engineering, and field personnel. Represents startup on project teams as assigned.
- Reviews Commissioning/Startup plans, schedules, and works with team members to meet completion dates.
- Coordinates between project engineering, construction, specialty staff groups, clients, and vendors.
- Establishes and implements plans, instructions, procedures, and work process improvements to ensure the safe, timely, and economical delivery of Commissioning / Start up activities to meet project requirements.
- Integrates interdisciplinary schedule requirements and constraints to establish logical work sequences for assigned disciplines or specialties.
- Apply management of change process to the commissioning activities. This includes design changes, scope change, produce NCRs/RFIs/FCDs, redlines and associated rework and retesting coordination as per Project procedures.
- Work hours as required, including shift-work, overtime, weekends and holidays as necessary to support the project
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9 -12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Broad technical experience of commissioning, startup, operation, maintenance, and testing of Mechanical Systems/Components of Oil & Gas Processing Facilities.
- Good Knowledge and Understanding of engineering systems, applications of startup and operations; and previous experience in Commissioning roles.
- Broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to startup, maintenance, operations, or testing.
- Possesses effective communications skills. Collaborates well in a team environment.
- Good leadership skills & able to provide technical guidance for testing, startup, and operations activities.
- Experience on an LNG construction site especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
- Experience in the design of LNG facilities.
- Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Test & Commissioning Procedures.
- Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including Setroute, Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools commonly used on Bechtel projects.
