Project Overview:
Port Arthur LNG, LLC (PALNG) is developing a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on a site located on the western shoreline of the Port Arthur Canal in Jefferson County, Texas. The project base scope will include two (2) identical LNG trains, two (2) LNG Storage Tanks, one (1) LNG Carrier Berth, and associated utilities/facilities. The Project is to be constructed on a parcel of land located at State Highway 87 south of Port Arthur, Texas, between the inner coastal waterway bridge and Keith Lake.
Job Summary:
The Tank Weld Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Field Engineering organization by maintaining various documentation needs, assisting in the preparation of work packages, maintaining the installation status of components and equipment necessary for the tank welding program and providing training for welding operations within the tanks discipline. Performs inspections within a specialty area and provide punch lists and sketches as necessary. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to the tank and storage area. This includes implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings and participating in safety investigations.
- Inspects site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches. Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy.
- Ensures that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
- Supports the implementation of the project Welding and NDE program to meet code and Engineering specifications, and quality requirements.
- Provides specialized welding engineering or equipment support to ensure construction meets all code and site requirements.
- Provides support to filler metal control and distribution. Interface with the project lead welding superintendent, and the lead field welding engineer for technical direction for welding & NDE requirements.
- Prepares material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement to obtain these materials.
- Assists in performing construction testing and inspections as required.
- Plans with other Superintendents the equipment required to execute the job.
- Coordinates activities with other discipline superintendents or area superintendents and client resident representatives, as necessary to meet project objectives.
- Assists in maintaining welder qualifications and welder stamps.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and experience of construction methods of full containment LNG tank construction which includes knowledge of carbon steel, aluminum, and 9% Ni plate erection, welding and NDE.
- Working in a field construction environment understanding specifications, vendor procedures, instructions & codes with working knowledge of API-650, API-620, API-625, API-653. Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, SAW and the use of Automatic Girth Welders, Down Flat Tractors, and mechanized welding equipment.
- Technical knowledge of tank building equipment and tools. Knowledge of requirements for Lock Out Tag Out. Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet applications. Ability to work with multinational employees and across different languages.
- Ability and willingness to train less experienced team members and provide mentorship to others.
Additional Qualifications Experience with WITS, Teamworks, and Bechtel Corporate Welding Procedures. Experience on an LNG construction site especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Additional Information
Work includes field surveillance and examination of in-process and completed work. Must have the physical ability to conduct field surveillance and examinations activities, which require the following: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, respirator fit test and use, etc.). Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
