Project Overview:
Port Arthur LNG, LLC (PALNG) is developing a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on a site located on the western shoreline of the Port Arthur Canal in Jefferson County, Texas. The project base scope will include two (2) identical LNG trains, two (2) LNG Storage Tanks, one (1) LNG Carrier Berth, and associated utilities/facilities. The Project is to be constructed on a parcel of land located along State Highway 87 south of Port Arthur, Texas, between the inner coastal waterway bridge and Keith Lake. As the #1 LNG EPC contractor by installed capacity, Bechtel has the capability to successfully deliver a broad range of LNG projects through our integrated EPC self-perform model, strategic partnerships, and proven experience in LNG project delivery. Partnering with Bechtel means lower cost, shorter delivery schedules, and greater certainty of outcomes for our customers.
Job Summary:
The Piping Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the piping discipline. Supervises and directs piping craft professionals, subordinate supervisors, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction performance is following specifications and within schedules and budgets. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule if required, including, but not limited to nightshift, split shift, or day shift. In this role, you will monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders’ involvement, through the coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff. Your field supervision will help ensure operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Monitors and organizes subcontractor activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractor’s management staff within the area of responsibility.
- Role supports projects of moderate complexity and few stakeholders involved.
- Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
- Develops planning construction methods and procedures.
- Develops projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements
- Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements
- Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
- Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents
- Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to the piping department. This includes preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings. Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches.
- Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor. Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy. Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
- Monitor the activities of craft to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules. Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the 90 day and 3-week look ahead schedules for labor and equipment.
- Interface with Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs. Review craft time records using established automated tools. Review and approve subcontractor equipment/personnel mobilization and demobilization.
- Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned electrical operations.
- Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire piping craft labor to execute work. Coordinate established area operational plans.
- Provide input to quantity tracking applications and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
- Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement to obtain these materials.
- Assist in performing construction testing as required. Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
- Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job. Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate electrical personnel. Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
Additional Information:
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
