Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina,

Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of

Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with good communication, leadership and client interfacing skills, with demonstrated experience in delivery of brownfields, bulk

materials reclaimers / balance machines packages, either as part of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or EPCM / EPC organisation. With a strong pipeline of projects ranging from

front end development studies to full EPCM project execution now is truly the right time to join this innovative multi-discipline team and play a key role in driving success.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership".

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the mechanical engineering work on project which include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications.
  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Mechanical  components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures
  • Designs and specifies mechanical system using advanced mechanical calculation and modelling, and within the requirements of the relevant regulations and Australian Standards
  • Specific knowledge of the design, supply and installation processes for rail mounted stockyard machines, and particular knowledge of the application of the standards: AS4324  - MOBILE EQUIPMENT FOR CONTINUOUS HANDLING OF BULK MATERIALS; and FEM Section II - RULES FOR THE DESIGN OF MOBILE EQUIPMENT FOR CONTINUOUS HANDLING OF BULK MATERIALS
  • Originates and checks complex mechanical engineering deliverables, specifications, and material requisitions
  • Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
  • Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
  • Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
  • Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-15 years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • A recognized degree in Mechanical engineering, from an accredited college or university
  • A professional license in an appropriate discipline, from a recognized licensing board
  • Specialized knowledge in the field of mobile machines used in bulk materials handling engineering, with particular emphasis on experience in either iron ore, or bauxite handling.
  • Particular emphasis will be placed on experience in the specification, design, construction and commissioning of large rail or crawler mounted mobile materials handling machines.
  • Experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the requirements of all phases of the project gestation process from concept to completion is also necessary.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of engineering/scientific systems, calculations, applications, construction methods and materials and relevant computer applications as required by the bulk materials handling industry globally.
  • Must have knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved in bulk materials handling project execution.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the area of bulk materials handling
  • Progressive work experience, preferably in project development, specifically as a participant and later leader of detailed design engineering teams.
  • Experience in specialty consulting or other relevant types of engineering such as systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation in large bulk materials handling plants, process plants or engineering/construction firms involved
