Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

 

Job Summary:

As Electrical Engineer, you will work as part of an engineering team to deliver medium to large EPC and/or EPCM projects.

You will help lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project’s electrical engineering aspects are met.

Travel between Bechtel and customer project offices and sites will be required.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

 

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent electrical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.
  • Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements. 
  • Assist in the evaluation of suppliers and technical bid evaluations.
  • Familiar with tie-in of overhead powerline, design of switchrooms and cable calculations.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations of the electrical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering. 
  • Helps lead the design, development, modification and evaluation of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant procedures, design standards and guides.
  • Other responsibilities as designated.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-15 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferential will be in field experience across either EPCM and/or EPC execution models on major, complex projects.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Relevant work experience in FEED, proposal & detailed engineering preferably in an EPC/EPCM industry for large mining projects, power projects, utilities, oil and gas plants. 
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computer applications within the Electrical engineering discipline.
  • Experience in design, procurement, construction, commissioning or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities or process plants is desirable. 
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods and of precedents in the Electrical discipline and principles and practices of inter-related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the associated costs.
  • Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
