Project Overview:
Bechtel is providing project and contract management services to customers in Western Australia to support exciting capital works programmes, including in energy infrastructure. We are looking for people to join us to deliver these services in and around Perth where we are working within an integrated team with our customer.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for startup planning and activities on major projects. You will coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, and clients to leverage diverse technical team skills to integrate the startup plan. You will identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively course correct to ensure goals, schedules, and requirements are met. The work will require coordination with stakeholders for Testing and Commissioning (T&C) and Handover plans, technical documentation and delivery of scope in the field. The Commissioning Manager has a key role in the planning and the phasing of the project in such a way that it can be tested sequentially to optimise safety, quality, schedule and cost.
Major Responsibilities:
- Acts as a Startup Discipline Lead typically with six or fewer direct reports
- May have only limited work assignments beyond supervising others
- May be applicable to a PSUM on very small projects of limited complexity, e.g., solar PV, or on small PM Services projects where the role typically has 0 to 1 direct reports
- Typically, applicable to Deputy PSUMs on small projects (<$250m) or stretch assignment on a large project, Area Leads on large projects of moderate complexity and few stakeholders involved
- Responsible for startup and/or operations activities for an assigned area or wide scope on a small or medium size project, designated portions of a larger project, or multiple smaller projects as assigned
- Assists in preparation of project proposals
- Coordinates, as directed, with project management, the startup related engineering, construction, and client activities as an office assignment or during startup, operations, maintenance or testing at the jobsite
- Directs the preparation of portions of or assists in the preparation of operations manuals
- Supervises and provides technical guidance to personnel assigned to projects or tasks within area of responsibility
- Estimates staffing needs and schedules on assigned tasks or projects
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Good collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of commissioning/integration and handover.
- Experience of managing testing, commissioning and operational trials for one or more large or complex high voltage power transmission projects.
- Experience in managing commissioning and overseeing testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria in all the areas of commissioning.
- Strong negotiation skills for dealing with clients.
