Project Overview:

Bechtel as part of the Northrop Grumman Corp. team is preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

 

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Position Summary:

Assigned to the Construction organization as a Field Engineer, reporting to the Lead Field Engineer for Trenching and Communications. Responsible for providing engineering guidance to engineering team as needed to meet specified walkdown and design requirements and deliverables. Performs various construction engineering assignments requiring a working knowledge of construction engineering practices. This is for a short term assignment (<12 months).

 

Assignment Location Details:

This position is a traveling field position. Locations of assignment will start at program office in Ogden, UT for project orientation and the mobilize to field locations as needed in the following areas;

  • Cheyanne, WY
  • Great Falls, MT
  • Minot, ND

Note: Assignment will return to program office in Ogden, UT once field conditions deteriorate for the winter months and the return to the field around March 2022

 

Assignment Condition Details:

  • Work Schedule: Revolving 4-week business trips:
    • Weeks 1-3: 6 days x 10hr/day (OT hours over 40)
    • Week 4: 4 days x 10hr/day
  • Vehicle: Company vehicle/truck will be provided as assignment locations as needed
  • Lodging: Reimbursable up to the Standard GSA Rate $96/night – requires receipts
  • Meals & Incidentals (M&IE): Flat Rate based on Standard GSA Rate $55/day
  • GSA Rates: Rates quoted above are subject to change with revised info from U.S. General Services Administration
  • Travel Home: Travel home expenses will be provided on 4-week intervals for a 3 days weekend at Point of Origin (POO)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs walkdowns of underground utility corridors.
  • Identifies technical elements for the civil scope of work, and coordinates with Engineering on constructability issues.
  • Prepares walk down notes and other deliverables, including summary of construction progress.
  • Analyzes assigned activities to determine the scope, time and resource requirements.
  • Provides civil / underground utilities supplemental technical, constructability and design assistance to project team.
  • Generates design change proposals.
  • Produce sketches as required.
  • May be required to assist in training and mentoring of one or more junior team members.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level One: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university and 1 year of related professional experience, or in lieu of degree, 7 years related experience.
  • Level Two: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university and 3 years of related professional experience, or in lieu of degree, 9 years related experience.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be physically capable to participate in field walkdowns, which may require the following activities: 
    • extensive walking upwards of 6 miles per day.
    • lifting up to 40lbs without assistance.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a site security badge.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule. This project may have multiple work schedules that are subject to change and may require employees to work overtime, weekends and/or night shift when a business need arises.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

    Have a working knowledge of construction operations (including production and cost management, scheduling and forecast development).
  • Must have or be able to obtain a working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Processes Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Candidate should be motivated self-starter, requiring little supervision and moderate direction, and be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe work ethic and work environment at all times.
  • Strong computer competence and literacy – Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Databases.
  • Experience working with Designers and Engineers to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
  • Must be able to work independently in the preparation of deliverables to design.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Linear project (pipeline, telecommunications, etc.) desktop study experience including planning and routing.
  • Linear project (pipeline, telecommunications, etc.) field experience including planning, routing, field engineering, construction, environmental, safety.
  • Geohazards identification, mapping, analysis and mitigation.
  • Previous project experience with earthworks, road, bridge, drainage, rail crossings, retaining wall and culverts.
  • Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
  • Prior experience with US Ground Based Missile Defense, Minuteman, or Peacekeeper weapons programs.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Knowledge in directional boring, soil mechanics, and roads.
