Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary:

The Civil Superintendent is responsible for directing subcontractor workforces and ensuring resources are efficiently utilized across multiple work areas. Ensures assigned workforce performance is in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets. Monitor actual performance versus assigned unit rates and other metrics as determined by Construction Management.  Primarily reports to the Site Manager for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned building specific tasks. As Civil Superintendent, establish technical and site specific prioritization of work activities and craft crew distribution. Coordinates with Field Engineering and Subcontract Technical Reps for questions with design documents, materials, and other work control documents. This position may be assigned to night shift and will require working overtime. #LI-CL1

Major Responsibilities:

•    Provides leadership for environmental, safety, health, injury/accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes assisting with safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading direct hire safety meetings.
•    Inspect building and area for unsafe conditions, behaviors and practices and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate and eliminate.
•    Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work behaviors and practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
•    Be the Champion for the ZERO Accident Program. 
•    Ensure that Bechtel Core processes and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
•    Ensure the applicable design document for civil commodities is provided to direct hire craft personnel to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
•    Provide input into work packages including means and methods, sequencing, and manpower loading.
•    Ensure permanent plant materials are stored in accordance with specifications and project requirements.
•    Coordinate with other area construction work activities and plans.
•    Lead the preparation and implementation of the 3-week look-ahead and four-week rolling schedule and budget control with support from Field Engineering and Project Controls.
•    Provide input to Field Engineering for quantity tracking and report weekly installed quantities.
•    Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
•    Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
•    Solves day-to-day operational work problems.
•    Provides input on resource requirements.
•    May provide input for hiring, termination, and promotion decisions.
•    Identifies training needs.
•    Provides performance information on team and individuals to next line supervisor.
•    Coaches employees.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • ​​​​​​​Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

•   Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
•    Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
•    Must be able to pass Pre-employment drug screen, background check and obtain badging.
•    Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the facility.
•    Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.
•    Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.
•    Intermediate knowledge with IBC 2018 International Building Code and ACI 318-4, installation of soils, structural steel, reinforcing steel, and concrete placement.
•    Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
•    Prior supervisory experience managing subcontractor workforce.
Preferred:
•    Advanced knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means and methods.
•    Advanced knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.
•    Advanced knowledge with, IBC 2018 International Building Code and ACI 318-4, installation of soils, structural steel, reinforcing steel, and concrete placement.
•    9 years’ experience as a superintendent and 3+ years in a lead superintendent or construction management role.
•    Prior supervisory experience managing subcontractor workforce.
•    Daily coordination of installation sequence and logistics between disciplines to ensure schedules and milestones are achieved.
•    Previous work on Bechtel project(s).
