Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will prepare design and procurement documents for the Sentinel Project. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating the design as it pertain to HVAC and chilled water systems as well as unique requirement driven equipment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in HVAC design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams and equipment data sheets as well as strong organizational and teamwork skills and proven problem-solving capabilities. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and check HVAC design and procurement documents including but not limited to V&IDs, supporting calculations, data sheets, engineering specifications, and material requisitions
  • Support other Mechanical design and procurement activities
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria to support engineering design decisions
  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
  • Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
  • Assists project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
  • Prepares mechanical engineering reports for clients as required
  • Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members
  • Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level I: Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Level II: Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional work experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Experience in Ventilation and Instrument Diagram (V&ID) development, HVAC system design, heat transfer, heating/cooling loads, and duct sizing calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
  • Experience with International Mechanical Code, ASHRAE, and/or SMACNA codes typically used in HVAC systems.
  • Experience working on DOD government projects and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs).
  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, or AS9100D.
  • U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Possess active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.
