Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary:

In this role, you will perform assignments that utilize your professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of standard design techniques, applicable codes and standards, procedures, and criteria. You may develop instrumentation and control systems deliverables, including instrument location drawings, instrument installation details, system block diagrams, instrument rack layouts, location of instrumentation and other Control Systems commodities in the 3D model, and more. You will exercise judgement in performing your assigned duties, using industry experience and methods prescribed by your supervisor, The designer will work with other Control Systems designers and engineers, other engineering disciplines, other functional department personnel and/or the client. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude and a desire to innovate design.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Generates 2D design drawings and/or 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models of high complexity with minimal guidance from others
  • Develops Control Systems design deliverables, such as Instrument Installation Details (IIDs), Instrument Location Drawings (derived from 3D model), Panel/Cabinet/Rack detail drawings, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Works within Control Systems' databases (e.g., Instrument Index, I/O lists, etc.)
  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved Control Systems design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe operation and construction economy
  • Performs interference checks for Control Systems' commodities within the 3D modeling software
  • Participates in constructability reviews
  • Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements
  • Reviews and checks design models, drawings and design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality and satisfactory completion
  • Coordinates the reviews for the accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the Control Systems discipline
  • Assists in the development of work plans, estimates, budgets, and schedules for basic Control Systems designer tasks based on input and direction from discipline supervisor


 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a technical bachelor's degree or associate's degree and 5 to 8 years of relevant experience or 9 to 12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proficient in 2D drawing generation (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling (e.g., SPM)
  • Preferred: Knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation tools
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Control Systems' commodities (e.g., instrumentation, panels)
