Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary:

This position is for a Mechanical Engineer who will prepare designs for mechanical systems associated with the Sentinel project. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the Sentinel (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support design development of Mechanical systems and equipment for the Sentinel program project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. 
  • Work with mechanical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment. 
  • Develop design drawings and other design documents.
  • Perform formal calculations.
  • Prepare design and equipment specifications.
  • Develop design configuration packages for configuration control and change management.
  • Design Building Information Modeling (BIM) and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.  

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level I

  • Requires a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with 1-2 years of experience or in lieu of a degree 5-6 years of relevant work experience.

Level II

  • Requires a BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with 2-5 years of experience or in lieu of a degree 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experienced in design drawings, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in use of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Prior work experience in multi-project environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.
  • Experience developing equipment configuration packages for procurement and maintenance.
  • Passed Engineering in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering Examination in USA (Mechanical or related Engineering).
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as AS9100 or NQA-1.
  • Basic knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
