Project Overview

Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the Sentinel (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. Sentinel is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman Sentinel nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Position Summary

The HVAC Lead will support the Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor in leading other Mechanical Engineers who will prepare design and procurement documents for the Sentinel Project. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments as they pertain to HVAC and chilled water systems as well as unique requirement driven equipment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in HVAC design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams and equipment data sheets as well as strong organizational and teamwork skills and proven problem-solving capabilities. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and technical guidance to discipline work group and assist the management of discipline work process execution and ensure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
  • Assist in the building of an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities. Provide leadership and mentoring to team members.
  • Establish or assist in establishing and maintaining work plans to ensure schedules are met and stakeholder requirements are satisfied. Create and track actions, estimate hours, and update schedules.
  • Devise innovative approaches to solving problems from a variety of detailed technical options and assess cost implications.
  • Contribute directly to the cost-effective design of HVAC systems as well as unique requirement driven equipment.
  • Identify major technical uncertainties and present solution options for management decisions.
  • Serve as an advisor for the analysis and solution of engineering problems and interpret drawings, verbal instructions, and applicable codes relevant to project requirements and the ability to articulate explanations.
  • Interface and Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the client in developing the design.
  • Perform other related work as assigned by Mechanical and Plant Design Team Supervisor or Deputy Supervisors.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level One: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Level Two: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 9 years of relevant experience.
  • US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
  • Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.

 

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building mechanical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Mechanical or related Engineering).

 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Related experience in drawing development for design of fluid systems, hydraulics, heat transfer, HVAC, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification.
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
  • Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
  • Experience executing engineering and design with Revit.
  • Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
