Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

Job Summary:

The EPC Automation Manager is at the core of Bechtel’s data centric delivery model and is responsible for understanding the relevant stakeholder information required to deliver the Project and identifying how these outputs will be met through data requirements and automation tools.

The EPC Automation Manager is assigned to the PIM (Project Information Management) organization and responsible for a unified cross-functional automation team spanning across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Startup. The EPC Automation Manager also liaises with both internal and external key stakeholders, including to ensure Owner data and automation requirements are met, and 3rd party vendor data and deliverables are properly integrated into a unified project data environment.

The EPC Automation Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining an integrated tool ecosystem and reporting structure to create value across each function’s work processes.

The position is responsible to provide cross-functional coordination and methods of integration including, but not limited to, 3D Model Development, application setup and support, dataflows and exchanges (app to app / app to CDE), 4D Integrated Schedule, 5D Integrated Cost, document management, and drive an innovative culture on Project. #LI-TN1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and coordination across functional automation leads to deliver best outcomes for project digital delivery and advanced work packaging
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering to ensure alignment and integration with BIM requirements
  • Ensure the tool selection and deployment, data requirements and structure, and project automation and integration plan support the overall project execution plan
  • Work closely with the functional teams to understand life-cycle information requirements (both graphical and non-graphical)
  • Oversee and lead automation leads and teams across all functions
  • Ensure the implementation of the Project Information Model for use across each stage of the Project:
    • Ensure the Project Information Model meets the client information requirements, Bechtel information requirements, and industry wide standards
    • Ensure the Project Automation Plan aligns to the Project Information Model
    • Review Functional Project Procedures to ensure alignment with the Project Information Management Plan
    • Ensure adequate training is provided on the use of the Project Information Model and associated tools and processes (CDE, 4D, 5D, etc) to assist its deployment, including engagement with off-Project subject matter experts
  • Use automation and reporting to monitor and maintain highest level of data quality and accuracy

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement and Construction ensuring the continuity and appropriate level of detail is produced to support each of the Project phases
  • Review the Procurement and Contracts tender documents used for the supply chain to ensure information capabilities are assessed and aligned to the Project Information Model
  • Ensure the Electronic Document Management System, Aconex, is configured and managed to support the needs of the project
  • Provide direction to EPC Automation on the deployment of automation tools, identifying user groups, and ensuring the integration of the various software tools through app to app exchanges and the CDE
  • Receive and understand the client information requirements and coordinates with Project functional teams to develop the Project Delivery Matrix, including key coding structures such as Work Breakdown and asset classification codes, in alignment with client requirements and other Project stakeholders
  • Liaise with client stakeholders to exchange and ensure information requirements are met
  • Provide input into the design requirements including the level of detail and data attributes required to support the required outputs through the phases of the Project.
  • Support the PIM Manager to champion, develop, and implement innovation across the Project. Contribute leadership to establishing a culture for ideas and improvement opportunities to be raised, considered, and implemented. Continually seek ways in which the Project Information Model, Automation Plan, and digital toolkit can be utilized to improve safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Recognized degree in relevant field i.e. engineering, construction, information management with 13+ years of experience.
  • Significant experience working within the EPC functions or a strong Project-led understanding of cross-functional EPC work processes and the applications used for Project execution with a passion for implementing new and innovative work processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain new work processes and technologies to all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated individual with outstanding leadership skills and the ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities with demonstrated experience providing direction/supervising a team.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management and application integration requirements to enable cross-functional data integration
