Project Overview:
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
The UPF project works on a 4/10 schedule. Start times are flexible but the standard work week is: Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Job Summary:
The Automation Engineer reports to UPF Program Manager. The Automation Engineer is responsible for data automation and analytics processes related to the Testing, budget, and issues management here at UPF and corporate level.H1
Major Responsibilities:
- Improve various commissioning data handling processes and computer software systems by automating specific parts to work independently and automatically.
- Revise existing data handling technology so it requires less human interaction.
- Monitor the performance of the implemented changes for data reporting accuracy and repeatability.
- Coordinates with project controls team to provide and align progress reports with project milestones.
- Develops in excel or other corporate software tool an engineering system turnover and handover skyline template.
- Develops or enhance current data processing and analytics (databroker) tools like Oracle, Intergraph (smart Plant), Inspec, to produce accurate equipment list with attributes assigned automatically based on plant 3D type models.
- Uses Power BI to collect and organize data in condensed presentations or prepopulates data in test or work control forms.
- Build tools and systems to support field operations and automate processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate high-quality data.
- Coordinates with other contractors or suppliers to obtain the required digital data in formats that can be used for our tools.
- Collaborate with business units to understand and support business analytic needs.
- Work closely with data scientists and other analytics professionals in the organization.
- Reports to the PSUM or direct supervisor technical issues or problems noted during the executions of the above activities.
- Serving as a technical specialist in the application of advanced software techniques, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned area of responsibility.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth knowledge in the areas of and knowledge of principles and practices related to software automation.
- Good knowledge of related construction and engineering practices and the economics involved.
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience preparing and presenting test procedures and reports
