Workers Compensation/Health Coordinator

The Claims Administrator is responsible for implementing all initial administrative coordination aspects of the project workers’ compensation program for both the Project Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) and the Bechtel Insurance Program for those applicable enrollees.  This position will also assist with the administration of project-related auto and other property insured claims.  Position is temporarily located at the off-project office located at 7775 Walton Parkway, New Albany, OH 43054 and will be transferring to the project site location at 4111 Clover Valley Rd. New Albany, OH 43031, before 2023.  Anticipated work schedule is 48 hours per week – additional hours are possible based on field work schedule.  The Claims Administrator works with and under the direction of Bechtel Project EHS Manager or delegate, the Project EHS Services Manager, acting independently to manage routine matters while keeping Bechtel Project Management fully informed at all stages.



  • Communicates regularly and effectively with injured workers, on and off-site medical professionals, insurers, brokers, Bechtel internal/external counsel, Bechtel Corporate Risk Management, and various state related (OH) regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining project-specific workers’ compensation claims manual, off-site medical service provider options, related processes, and procedures for statutory claims.  Implements improvements based on lessons learned, owner/third-party administrator/s (TPA) requested administrative or Bechtel Corporate Risk Management operating procedures/imperatives.
  • Provides OCIP and/or Bechtel Insurance Program claims reporting process information in preparation for on-site training (delivered by others) related to project workers’ compensation procedures and policies.
  • Under the guidance of the Project or EHS Services Manager, develops and prepares routine and special reports outlining project claims performance.  Monitors claims activity to identify early negative claim trends or other issues that may negatively impact project performance.
  • Primary responsibilities include the oversight and processing of all Project on-site related workers’ compensation claims.  Continues active/close monitoring of those claim activities and assists with the ongoing and effective management including as applicable, the coordination of early Return to Work (RTW):
    • Responsible for initiating (in coordination with the Medical Facility providers), preparing, and maintaining all required documentation associated with project claims.
    • Responsible for maintaining all Bechtel related employee and other loss claims information within the Bechtel (IRIS) Database.
    • Documents eligibility for workers’ compensation benefits and communicates same to OCIP and/or TPA and related interested parties.
    • Documents and assists with incident investigations.
    • Monitors claim resolution activities implemented by insurer(s)/TPA's.
    • Participates in regular insurer(s)/TPA's and/or Bechtel claim reviews and prepares related reports.
    • Interfaces with client and Bechtel insurer(s)/TPA's to effectively manage claims.
    • Manages relationships with onsite clinic, panel physicians and other medical providers, to ensure effective claims management and return to work efforts are closely coordinated with the on-site medical facility/nurses, etc.
    • Works with injured worker and their respective supervision on developing and implementing an aggressive return to work plan.
    • Assists in management fitness for duty and ADA accommodation issues, as needed.
  • Assists Bechtel Risk Management with the gathering of party information, filing and administration of auto and other project related insured claims as needed.
  • Will be required to work with site/Bechtel Time-Keeping personnel for the requesting and subsequent collection of historical work hours, employment history, etc., for individual employee claims.
  • Performs other EHS related tasks as required by the Bechtel Project EHS and/or Services Manager when spare time is available from primary responsibilities mentioned above.


Skill Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Extensive knowledge of / experience with workers’ compensation and occupational medical rehabilitation procedures, practices, and processes.
  • Working knowledge of / experience with bodily injury and 1st and 3rd party property damage claims practices and processes.
  • Working knowledge of / experience with auto and other insured claims practices and procedures.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Highly skilled in written and verbal communication (professional staff and craft).
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental project time-keeping systems (ideally e-track or similar) to aid in claim-related information gathering of individual work history.
  • Basic knowledge of DOT/HHS Drug-Testing means/methods for coordination and assistance with on-site medical facility.
