Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as ten Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The Office Surveyor is responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support as required to the construction survey team. The Office Surveyor reports directly to the Project Survey Manager (PSM). The Office Surveyor interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities, equipment locations, and support to the Area Lead Surveyors and their assigned field survey teams in support of the civil, structural, mechanical and piping installations within the work area.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist with oversight of all survey operations and with providing technical direction to the direct-hire survey team
  • Assist with the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs
  • Supports the implementation and administration of the Survey Work Request program
  • Ensures that survey office calculations execution supports the project’s construction schedule
  • Develop and maintain survey data
  • Review and approve survey data from field crews and ensure survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Provide office technical support to the survey team including processing of survey data and preparation of deliverables utilizing survey industry best practices
  • Support with the Verification of the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary control points
  • Review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments
  • Identifying the location of underground services and maintaining a drawing with as-built underground installations to support excavation permitting process
  • Support the supervision of the 3D Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture and processing of scan data
  • Prepare survey CAD drawings as required in the performance of duties, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations
  • Provide Civil project completion data and documentation including "As-Built" records
  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments
  • Provide direction and training to less experienced survey team members

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, such as TBC (Trimble Business Center) and AutoCAD Civil 3D; including proficiency with construction layout computations and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations; and drafting of as staked/as-built data
  • General awareness of environmental laws and awareness of government compliance standards
  • Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance
