Project Overview:
Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the M&T global business unit also includes colleagues working in Arizona, Ohio, Texas, India, and additional project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead, implement, and maintain global construction field welding programs and provide specialized welding engineering support. You will manage, inspect, and monitor the welding test lab, the rod room, the weld heat treatment program, and the laboratory quality plan. Your technical advice will help ensure defects, behaviors, and other issues are rectified prior to final inspection. #LI-BH1
Major Responsibilities:
Corporate / Lead / Field Welding Engineer
- Implements and maintains Bechtel's Corporate and/or Field Welding program, may also be assigned as Lead Field Welding Engineer on large and complex projects.
- Interfaces with engineering and provides specialized welding engineering support for construction required to meet all code, client/engineering specifications and Bechtel procedures and standards.
- Assists in the management of the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program.
- Assists in the management of the rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled so to meet Bechtel, Code, and Client requirements.
- Schedules and coordinates NDE with construction and subcontractors for the most efficient NDE schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction.
Additional Requirements for Corporate Level III
- Leads the global construction field welding and NDE special process programs, ISO-9001, ASME, AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASNT or other design codes or specifications compliance for construction and the performance of the welding and NDE programs at nuclear and non-nuclear facilities where Bechtel has welding and NDE responsibilities and control.
- Responsibilities include the qualification of personnel, writing procedures and standards, evaluation of new NDE technologies.
- Reviews and accepts subcontractor NDE submittals.
Additional Requirements for MET Lab Technician
- Possesses familiarity with testing methods and practices for mechanical, corrosion and metallurgical testing in accordance with ASTM practices.
- Manages a laboratory quality plan in accordance with ISO 17025/A2LA.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be capable of taking and passing NDE Level II VT certifications, additional NDE Certs are preferred PT, MT, and LT (Vac Box) certifications.
- Construction experience assigned to a construction site.
- Experience managing technical services subcontracts.
- Experience on an LNG construction site especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
- Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
- Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW / GTAW / GMAW / FCAW.
- Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications and TEAMWorks/WITS.
- Intermediate understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
- Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Excellent problem-solving ability.
