Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline

Job Summary:

Civil-Structural Field Engineer will report to the Area CSA Field Engineer (FAB Building) and assist the construction team in the technical aspects of the civil, structural, and architectural scope. Individual will provide direct support to superintendents and craft professionals, including, but not limited to, work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take-offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem solving – all in support of meeting project cost and time schedules. Project involves a significant civil/structural scope involving both structural concrete and structural steel. Candidate should be well versed in concrete operations and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Codes and Standards. Candidate should be well versed in structural steel erection and the American Institute of Steel Construction manual and standards. Candidate should be able to proficiently work in high-paced environments and manage change while upholding Bechtel Safety and Quality standards. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to address constructability and design challenges related to commodity installations and work sequencing.
  • Provide comprehensive field engineering support to superintendents and project personnel, ensuring adherence to cost and schedule objectives.
  • Develop work plans, perform material take-offs, create material requisitions, perform and document quality control inspections, report installation progress, and resolve design and construction conflicts related to the installation and testing of civil/structural commodities.
  • Perform civil field engineering activities including inspections, audits, and planning to support the installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural commodities, and earthworks.
  • Assure procedural compliance for work being completed in the field.
  • Review specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
  • Oversee, interface, and coordinate with subcontractors and subcontractor work efforts.
  • Assist in the management of subcontract changes. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  •  Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of a specialized engineering discipline, cost, scheduling and/or contracts administration relating to the construction of heavy industrial or commercial complexes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment. Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook, and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility Familiar with Bechtel’s Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards Knowledge of the use of subcontracts. knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents. 
  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • An understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
  • Experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ACI 301, 318, 117-10, 305R, 306R, CRSI, AISC, RCSC.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Aconex, DSCS, Unifier, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
