Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will coordinate and update survey strategy, provide technical support for laser scanning and meteorology surveys, and oversee survey computer aided design (CAD) drawings, instrument calibration, subcontractor survey work, and project drone operations. Your recommendations will ensure drone flight safety and high quality, accurate work delivered within schedule and budget #LI-TH1 

Major Responsibilities:

The Area Lead Surveyor’s duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Leads the oversight of direct-hire survey crews for an assigned area, coordinating all Survey Field and Office activities Provide Construction Survey support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision
  • Establish and/or verify and maintain the project’s survey control network
  • Supervise direct hire and/or sub-contracted survey crews, including verification of survey crews’ control points and work
  • Perform duties of a Party Chief on a 2 or 3 person direct-hire survey crew if required
  • Utilize survey instruments in adherence to Bechtel’s Survey Procedure (SWPP3201)
  • Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications, and appropriate methods of performing survey activities
  • Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs
  • Develop and maintain survey data Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments
  • Support the administration of the survey work request program
  • Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties
  • Oversee Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records
  • Oversee the preparation of survey CAD drawings as required in the performance of duties, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations Responsible for the training of subordinates  

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program.
  • Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day
  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards and must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities
  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, and contractors, and survey functional management
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations; and drafting of as staked/as-built data
  • General awareness of environmental laws and government compliance standards
  • Must have experience managing teams working on multiple work fronts; experience working under time constraints, and must be adaptable to changing conditions
  • Must have the right to live and work in the USA without sponsorship
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education
  • Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance
  • This project may have multiple work schedules that are subject to change and may require employees to work overtime, weekends and/or night shift when a business need arises
  • Prior Bechtel Survey Mega-Project experience
  • Experience with UAV/Drones Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to Metrology field & office activities
  • Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors workforce
  • Experience managing technical services subcontracts is desirable
