Job Summary: 

The Wind Construction Manager is responsible for planning and execution of all aspects of engineering, procurement and construction work performed by Bechtel direct hire craft and subcontractors across a portfolio of Wind EPC Projects.  The Wind Construction Manager is expected to manage EPC project(s) from an office location and/or remote project site, concentrating on safety, schedule, budget, labor relations, customer satisfaction, costs, and quality.  

 

Key Job Duties: 

  • Oversee and manage delivery portfolio of wind projects to ensure schedule, project scope management, budget performance, quality requirements and safety requirements are met. 
  • Coordinate and supervise internal and external project team(s) including superintendents, field engineering, craft foremen, self-perform craft, subcontractors. 
  • Provide coaching, training, supervisory and development responsibilities for Superintendents, Foremen and direct hire craft. 
  • Interface with Industrial Relations for craft recruitment to support direct hire execution as required. 
  • Optimize the use of construction equipment and tools on the project - Supervise layout, construction and maintenance of temporary facilities with the Project. 
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders such as owners, utilities, landowners, municipalities, developers, consultants, subcontractors, and other project partners. 
  • Manage budget and cost performance for the project(s) taking corrective actions to meet plan objectives. 
  • Support the development and manage project schedules including look-ahead schedules. 
  • Provide constructability reviews providing risk analysis, suggestions, and input to ensure successful delivery and execution. 
  • Provide leadership for the safety, accident prevention and fire prevention programs which include: Safety orientation of new employees, Prepare safety procedures and monitor Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings, inspect the site for unsafe conditions and practice and take appropriate corrective action to correct all observed problems & Lead toolbox safety meetings. 
  • Responsible for understanding and adherence to all project site requirements, permitting and other regulator compliance.   
  • Report on progress and status of projects to Management and external project stakeholders. 
  • Lead development of scope, contract and price negotiations with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support project administration including planning, documentation and closeout activities.  
  • Participate in defining and implementing improvements and lessons learned for the continued improvement of project execution.  
  • Support the development of Project Execution Plans, costs estimating, constructability reviews, scheduling, and coordinating of requests for proposals. 

 

Required Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience with the development and construction of large-scale renewable energy projects (+50MW).  
  • Strong multi-tasking, as work is performed across a portfolio of projects simultaneously and has significant interaction with stakeholders, subcontractors, OEMs, and vendors as needed. 
  • Skilled in providing direction, personnel administration, and training of technical and non-technical personnel. 
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated skill in presenting cost engineering information to management/clients. 
  • Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems. 
  • Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and commissioning work processes. 
  • Basic knowledge of project controls concepts, practices, and procedures, specifically project schedules, work breakdown structure, and budgets. 

 

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 10 years of EPC management experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years prior Field Non-Manual Supervision on medium to large-sized Wind EPC projects. 
  • Advanced understanding of contracts, plans, schedules, specifications, codes, design/build contracts, and construction means and methods. 
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices. 
  • Must have the right to work and remain in the United States. 

 

Preferred Skills:  

  • Utility-scale solar project experience >100MW.  
  • Utility-scale wind experience >100MW. 
  • Prior large-scale EPC experience.  
  • Prior Direct Hire / Craft supervision experience. 
  • High geographical mobility.
