Job Summary:

Senior HVAC Engineering Specialist having design and detail engineering experience in Data Centre projects. The candidate will be responsible for engineering activities in mechanical discipline on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit. Plans and perform engineering assignments on the project.

Candidate shall have expertise in CRAH, CRAC, DX, chilled water systems, air-cooled, liquid, and immersion cooling, along with hot/cold aisle containment, underfloor/overhead air distribution, humidity control mechanisms, leak detection system, redundancy strategies.

Candidate shall have technical  knowledge and experience in performing simulation and coordinating these assignments from conceptual stage (LOD 100) to detailed design (LOD 300). 

 

Major Responsibilities:

Selected candidate will report to the Engineering Group Supervisor and essential job duties will include the following:

  • Review of PFDs, PIDs, MSDs, Data sheets and collect necessary input required for simulation.
  • Interact with Global offices, execute work on workshare mode.
  • Assist project/proposal activities.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects.
  • Develop standard documentation for use on projects.
  • Implement/Capture Lesson Learnt.
  • Travel to assist activities at other engineering offices, supplier’s works, construction sites.
  • Create detailed 3D models of HVAC components and systems using CAD software, preparing them for CFD analysis by defining boundary conditions, fluid properties, and meshing parameters. 
  • Conduct CFD simulations to predict airflow patterns, temperature distribution, pressure drops, and other relevant parameters within the HVAC system.
  • Analyze simulation results to identify areas for improvement in HVAC system design, suggesting modifications to ductwork, equipment placement, and air flow patterns for better efficiency. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 15+ years of relevant work experience.
  • The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of Global Bechtel team and should have basic flair for working with personnel of different nationalities. Should have a good proficiency for spoken and written English language.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

This role will help in the development, review, and finalization of critical project deliverables/activities like:

  • Expertise in PUE optimization, free cooling, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, waste heat recovery, and thermal storage solutions, methods for sustainable and cost-effective operations.
  • Expertise in CFD (6SigmaDCX, ANSYS Fluent), HVAC design (HAP, TRACE 700), piping analysis (Pipe-Flo, AFT Fathom), BIM (Revit), and BMS integration for efficient system coordination.
  • Knowledge of compliance with ASHRAE TC 9.9, Uptime Institute, TIA-942, NFPA, LEED, Energy Star, and local mechanical and safety regulations.
  • Provide design suggestions/value additions based on analysis results and engineering judgment to improve product design.
  • Able to handle multiple projects.
  • Thorough understanding & accurate application of boundary conditions.
  • Provide presentation of technical analysis and summary of results.
  • Create and improve standard work practices and procedures.
  • Perform technical design reviews and recommend improvements.
  • Must have performed air side CFD simulation for data center/semiconductor/pharma cleanroom/ labs.
  • Will be added advantage to have experience in site wide air dispersion studies/ Cooling tower plume analysis/exhaust stack dispersion CFD studies.
