Job Summary:
This position is for a Senior Engineering Specialist-Aluminum Smelter having experience in detail engineering of large modern Aluminum smelters with technological experience in Reduction Plant, Carbon Plant, Cast House, Port and Smelter Infrastructure. The candidate shall lead a team of engineers and designers and is responsible for providing technical support to the Project Engineering Manager/Project Engineer. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. Candidate should have detail design experience with exposure for plant construction, start-up and operations.
Major Responsibilities:
Selected candidate will report to the Engineering Group Supervisor and essential job duties will include the following:
- Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews engineering work within a discipline on projects of medium size and complexity or assignments in support of a global business unit.
- Coordinates and monitor day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, designers and drafters.
- Executes process deliverables according to a set engineering design criterion utilizing approved engineering departmental procedures(EDP), codes and standards, Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to Project Manager/Project Engineer in consultation with specialists.
- Reviews and approves key engineering drawings, calculations, bid summaries and field change notices.
- Estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work to meet schedule dates.
- Conducts performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
- Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups.
- Develop / assist in documentation for progress reporting, tracking mechanism for team deliverables.
- Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP/ SIL), as well as reviewing compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
- Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain their approval on phases of work.
- Implement / Capture Lesson Learnt. Active pursue of Value Engineering, design and cost optimization program.
- Ensures that direct reports receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
- Interaction with Global office / Home office (abroad), execute work on workshare mode.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 15+ years of relevant work experience
- The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of Global Bechtel team and should have basic flair for working with personnel of different nationalities. Should have a good proficiency for spoken and written English language.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
This role will help in the development, review, and finalization of critical project deliverables/activities like:
- Candidate should have worked for execution of Basic/Conceptual Engineering, PFS/FS, EPCM, EPC modes of execution for Indian and International Aluminum Smelter projects. Experience in startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities or process plants is desirable. Knowledge of systems engineering, calculations, applications, construction methods and materials. Good working knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria in the specialty.
- Knowledge for Aluminum Smelter Process Licenser specific design requirements, Auxiliary facilities, integrating OSBL and construction features.
- Good knowledge of 2-D and 3-D computer aided design tools.
- Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Provide design suggestions/value additions based on analysis results and engineering judgment to improve product design.
- Able to handle multiple projects.
