Position Summary

This position is for a Requirements Engineer who will support all requirements management activities for selected projects. Key activities include identification, capture, analysis, allocation, assignment, tracing, and controlling of requirements. Activities also include establishing verification requirements and tracking verification status. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD, NASA, and DOE.


The Requirements Engineer position is available across multiple projects for Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security and Environmental Business Unit. These projects are located in various locations throughout the United States and do require US Citizenship. This will be a full-time salaried position. Relocation assistance and options to telework will be project specific and will be discussed directly with candidates during the hiring process.

This position will be responsible for performing requirements management work activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in, or be highly motivated to learn, performing requirements management activities. The candidate will be interfacing and coordinating with engineering disciplines and specialties, and project functional organizations in the developing, tracking, changing and verifying project requirements implementation. Specific activities include:

  • Assisting Project Functions in conducting due diligence to identify and capture project requirements from contractual, governmental, and external interface sources
  • Assisting project organizations with the assignment, clarification, verification and tracking of requirements
  • Assisting Engineering disciplines in writing requirements and associated verification requirements
  • Assisting Engineering disciplines in executing Requirements Management processes, including allocation, specification development, and verification tracking
  • Assisting Engineering disciplines in analyzing the impact of requirement changes, and implementing changes in requirements data sets
  • Assisting project organization in managing requirement data in a requirements management tool
  • Capturing data enabling two-way traceability of requirements from their originating sources and their consuming products
  • Using data-driven methods for developing requirements and verification related deliverables, such as specifications, design criteria, system descriptions, traceability reports and verification tracking matrices


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 1: BS degree in Engineering (Systems or related), from an accredited university, with at least 1 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 2: BS degree in Engineering (Systems or related), from an accredited university, with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Possesses a basic understanding of requirements management principles and methods
  • Experience working on large EPC contracts
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively
  • Relevant experience in developing design requirements and specifications, and verification requirements


Additional Qualifications:

  • International Counsel of Systems Engineers (INCOSE) certification
  • Experience in performing design and/or requirements change impact analyses
  • Experience executing requirements management and systems engineering software packages such as Spec Innovations’ Innoslate, IBM® Rationale DOORS® or DOORS® NG, CAMEO.
  • Understanding of industry standards related to requirements management including ISO 15288, ISO 29148 and the INCOSE Guide for Writing Requirements
