Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.  #LI-SM2

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • On the most complex jobs (first of a kind), performs the duties of the Project Field Engineer, responsible for coordination of all activities related to the area of responsibility and interfacing with all other operating sections of the jobsite. 

Leadership/Supervision:

  • Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback 
  • Develops and recommends the construction engineering staffing plan for approval by the Site Manager (or appropriate level of Project Management) and prepares employee requisitions.  
  • Directs construction engineering activities of the assigned construction engineering staff, ensuring compliance with procedures.  
  • Establishes a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables. 
  • Approves staffing requisitions as delegated by the Site Manager. 

Work Planning & Packaging:

  • Directs the design of temporary construction facilities as required. 

Material Management:  

  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment. 

Quantities:

  • Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.  

Safety / Quality Control:

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 18+ years of relevant experience or 22+ years of relevant work experience​.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Multi-Discipline Oversight & Coordination:

Manages and aligns the efforts of various discipline field engineers (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical, electrical), ensuring consistency in technical standards and seamless integration across the project.

Design Interpretation & Field Support:

Reviews and clarifies engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation, assisting the field teams in understanding design intent and resolving technical questions during construction.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

Implements rigorous QA/QC protocols, verifying that materials, installations, and on-site conditions meet design requirements, applicable codes, and project-specific standards.

Technical Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution:

Identifies and investigates field engineering challenges—such as design conflicts or unforeseen conditions—and coordinates with design teams, subcontractors, and superintendents to develop timely solutions.

Documentation & Change Management:

Maintains accurate records of field changes, test results, and non-conformances. Communicates updates promptly to relevant stakeholders, ensuring project documentation remains current and consistent.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Engages with project management, superintendents, and discipline teams to enhance processes, share lessons learned, and foster an environment that promotes high-quality engineering and construction practices.
