Pre-Construction Manager, Core Renewables

Summary:  

Bechtel’s Infrastructure division is hiring a pre-construction manager professional with experience in the utility-scale renewable energy industry (onshore wind and utility-scale PV solar).  The role will have primary responsibility for identifying, evaluating, and developing prospective new Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) work within the Core Renewables business. Additional responsibilities will include supporting marketing and business development activities associated with both development and competitively bid opportunities.  

  

Key Job Duties: 

  • Lead the business development strategic efforts to identify and cultivate new opportunities of desired size and scope in the renewable market sector to increase the company's new work booked. 
  • Support business development and marketing efforts simultaneously. 
  • Provide development support services to our customers 
  • Develop relationships with targeted individuals, groups and organizations using a broad knowledge of commercial structuring. 
  • Establish, build and manage relationships between managers and key executives in customer and prospective customer organizations. 
  • Must have the capability to develop approval documentation and presentation material in support of all activities in the business cycle. 
  • Actively participate in planning the business development/capture strategy for specific prospects.  
  • Remain abreast of the business development activity and strategy of competitors, including service offerings, pricing trends, and business development approaches.  
  • Follow up on jobs won and lost to determine the reasons why the company was or was not selected. 
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation and coordination of proposals, including developing and managing proposal win plans and budgets. 
  • Develop teaming and pricing strategies and leads proposal and pricing reviews with functional and senior management executives within Bechtel and in the customer organizations. 
  • Generate revenue by leading sales outreach activities including opportunity identification, pipeline management, evaluation, negotiations, and deal execution. 
  • Identify and evaluate technical, strategic and commercial structures in support of success in the business. 
  • Lead the negotiations of all commercial agreements, including the applicable execution contracts. 
  • Prepare and secure corporate approval of the project and contract. 
  • Recommend and support the research of current and possible future strategic markets and objectives. 
  • Recommend new services and new/adjacent industry markets that the company should actively pursue. 
  • Identify, qualify and develop partners and subcontractors complementing project and proposal opportunities. 
  • Maintain contacts with appropriate government entities to facilitate understanding of future industry drivers. 
  • Understand implications of work and make recommendations for solutions 

 

Required Skills and Abilities:  

  • Proven expertise and a strong sales record in the power market with the ability to identify new business and penetrate key clients in the renewables market. 
  • Knowledge in preparation of capture plans, strategic and win plans in the pursuit of projects. 
  • Strong understanding of the power market and project delivery requirements in support of project implementation. 
  • Experience in the structuring and negotiations of execution contracts. 
  • Strong knowledge of risk identification and management in the power industry. 
  • Must have knowledge of and relationships with key decision-makers and purchasers of services in the renewable energy industry. 
  • Strong commercial knowledge regarding terms and conditions associated with utility and Independent Power Producer (IPP) contracts. 
  • Well-developed understanding of marketing, business development and targeted sales strategies in the renewables business. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize resources. 
  • Must be comfortable managing the sales process at various stages of development. 
  • Experience in management, supervision, and personnel administration functions, including selection and training of personnel. 
  • Must be willing to travel as required. 

  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy (Wind, Solar and/or Battery Storage).
  • In-depth understanding of commercial utility policy, programs, and rate structure.
  • In-depth knowledge of Wind, solar or battery projects and financing. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.B.A. (preferred).
  • General knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Knowledge and prior experience with Energy Storage Systems.
