Project Overview:
Plant Design and Piping (PD&P) – Bechel India as part of the engineering function supports projects across multiple business lines for Energy, Power, Mining and M&T. PD&P has capabilities within our team to support projects from FEED phase to Detail Engineering phase including construction/site support. PD&P can support projects with Layout Design, Stress & Flexibility Analysis, Pipe Support Design, Materials & Automation capabilities. PD&P helps provide core competencies for Bechtel projects – Plot Plans, Piping Layout, Piping Specifications, Stress Analysis, 3D Modelling & Materials Management.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team and plan, develop, direct, and participate in plant design and piping engineering activity on large complex projects requiring major effort. You will maintain continuous contact with work in progress, conducting audits, and reviewing estimates, staffing, and budgets. Your guidance and support will ensure technical quality and resolution of complex and unusual design issues.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day plant design and piping engineering activity on small to medium sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal to moderate complexity within a global business unit
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
- Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of plant design and piping discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
- Reviews and makes recommendations of the plant design and piping engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering
- When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of plant design and piping engineering aspects of the work
- Reviews and approves key calculations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned
- Ensures that assigned plant design and piping personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, field engineering of utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.
- Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline. Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods. Knowledge of principles and practices of related disciplines. Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
- Good knowledge of application of 2-D and 3-D CAD tools in development of conceptual designs and production design deliverables for PD&P.
