Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s life safety system engineering aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of life safety system components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure complex requirements are met according to design standards.  #LI-MJ1

Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent scope of work and technical specifications for life safety system design and field investigations on large size projects or assignments in support of a global business unit​ 
  • Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of life safety system components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ 
  • Develops conceptual designs for Life Safety Systems engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements​ 
  • Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules​ 
  • Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services and participates in proposal preparation and presentation​ 
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting​
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data​ 
  • Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Life Safety Systems aspects of the work​ 
  • Mentors life safety system engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​. Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • NICET Level II or III Fire Alarm System Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of developing Fire Alarm System networks and device layouts, Emergency Voice Evacuation Systems, Air Sampling Detection (i.e. VESDA), Security System design to include Access Control and CCTV, Toxic Gas Monitoring Network Infrastructure along with single point and area detection requirements, as well as interfacing with other discipline systems as it relates to Life Safety Systems.
  • Familiar with the industry and regulatory codes and standards to include NFPA 72, NEC, NFPA 318, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, IBC, as well as design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
  • Excellent communication and people skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
