Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SM2
Major Responsibilities:
- On a medium to large (PFE Tier I - <$250m) job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section.
Leadership/Supervision
- Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
- Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.
Work Planning & Packaging
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
Material Management
- Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
Quantities
- Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
Safety / Quality Control
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
System Turnover Coordinator
For Direct Hire:
- Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.
STR / Subcontract Coordinator
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans,
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Instrumentation Systems & Technical Expertise
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation principles, devices, and control systems, ensuring effective design integration and optimal performance on complex projects.
Field Coordination & Execution
- Plans and oversees installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation in close collaboration with construction, electrical, and mechanical teams. Adjusts field plans as necessary to meet project goals.
QA/QC & Standards Compliance
- Upholds project quality standards and relevant industry codes (e.g., ISA, IEC). Performs routine inspections and documentation to verify that instrumentation meets design specifications and regulatory requirements.
Calibration & Troubleshooting
- Leads calibration and functional testing efforts, diagnosing and resolving technical issues promptly. Assesses measurement accuracy and system reliability to minimize downtime and maintain performance.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensures consistent implementation of site safety protocols and environmental regulations, with a particular focus on identifying and mitigating instrumentation-related hazards.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Communicates effectively with cross-functional teams, provides clear technical guidance, and seeks opportunities to enhance instrumentation practices, tools, and workflows.
