Job Summary:

The Industrial Hygiene helps develop and execute the industrial/occupational hygiene component of an ES&H program and assists with integrating specific industrial hygiene requirements into planning, design, and construction activities. Interprets routine industrial hygiene requirements, evaluates and applies basic scientific principles, formulates scopes of work, develops and implements industrial hygiene plans, procedures and methodologies suitable for achieving industrial hygiene objectives, and provides technical assistance to industrial hygiene technologists. May be assigned as an assistant industrial hygiene lead and typically works under a Senior Industrial Hygienist.

Receives technical supervision from the Industrial Hygiene Manager, Principal Industrial Hygienist, or a supervisory Senior Industrial Hygienist. If assigned full-time on a project, receives supervision and work assignments from the Project Industrial Hygiene Manager/Supervisor or Project ES&H Manager/Supervisor. #LI-AM3

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates integration of industrial hygiene requirements into project planning, design, construction, operations, schedules, and subcontract documents. Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance within ES&H teams and to other project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment, plan preparation, industrial hygiene requirements, and ES&H program execution.
  • Researches issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
  • Provides technical support and guidance for industrial hygiene studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of the project Safety and Health Management Plan and associated industrial hygiene plans, procedures, methods, and training program. 
  • Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of safety-related incidents. Helps identify stakeholders and resolve their concerns.
  • Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Subcontracts, Operations, and other project groups to make sure that industrial hygiene requirements are properly integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, and subcontracts.
  • Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors /subcontractors to advise them of industrial hygiene requirements that may affect their work.
  • Conducts inspections, sampling, and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify the need for corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel ES&H requirements.
  • Helps track ES&H performance and trends, prepares reports, and enters data in the Industrial Hygiene Records System (IHRS).
  • Provides support for ES&H team members and tasks, inclusive of all three ES&H disciplines

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health, education, or a science-related discipline and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
  • Analytical skills related to environmental sampling and monitoring.
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under project site and weather conditions.
  • Ability to support various work shifts, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Additional Qualifications:

·Certified Industrial Hygiene (or equivalent Certified Safety Professional) through a recognized accrediting organization licensing through appropriate regulatory authorities, where required sufficient number of courses in industrial hygiene broad, progressive work experience including senior supervisory experience in industrial hygiene.
