  • NY Positions: A 5% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in New York City, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.

Project Overview: 

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) is an exciting and growing business unit that serves customers in the semiconductor, electric vehicle, and datacenter markets. Pending award, Bechtel will serve as the Owner Representative for this confidential client located in New York.

 

Job Summary:

The Lead Incident Investigator will provide support across the project in supporting the implementation of the project’s EHS Management System and Plan. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health and leading investigations to ensure root and contributory causes are identified, related to the project’s management systems and development of suitable corrective actions that prevent recurrence. The position will provide additional services to the project including field inspections, system, and program audits. Prepares investigation reports, and other technical and regulatory reports, and research issues to support ES&H program execution. Assures that safety and health requirements are integrated in investigation reports, planning documents, construction and operational plans, schedules, and subcontract documents. Provides technical guidance within ES&H teams and other project groups, so that investigation findings are integrated within project planning, design, construction planning, procurement, subcontracts, commissioning, and other project functions. Coordinates with the project ES&H Manager, client, and other relevant parties to ensure investigation findings are understood and implemented. #LI-AM3

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H program and ES&H Management System, including aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments 
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities 
  • Maintains ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions 
  • Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly 
  • Identifies and coordinates unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel 
  • Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues 
  • Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention 
  • Coordinates incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports 
  • Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential 
  • Participates in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs 
  • Coordinates ES&H recognition programs 
  • Researches moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice 
  • Provides support to ES&H field and office personnel, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge, experience, and formal training in conducting root cause analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management System standards
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to construction
  • Experience with regulatory agency inspections and interactions
  • Specialized technical skills and knowledge related to investigating incidents related to construction activities
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to research and comprehend regulatory requirements.
  • Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and technical writing abilities.
  • Computer and analytical skills for presentations, data management, recordkeeping, and report preparation.
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
