SUMMARY:

Within discipline develops designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures and plant arrangements under supervision. Plans and executes the presentation of these in detailed scale models.

§  Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a supervising designer engineering supervisor.

§  Assigns tasks to and monitors work of employees in the group when assigned lead responsibility.

§  Contacts technical specialists to obtain technical information.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Generates 2-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) plant layouts and drawings using Microstation / Auto CAD / Smart Sketch from detailed design 3-D CAD model with minimal guidance from others.
  2. Proficient in SP3D modelling – Equipment modelling, Raceway, Grounding and lighting.
  3. Knowledge of Revit will be an added advantage.
  4. Works independently in the preparation of 3-D CAD design model under the supervision of experienced designers. Assists in constructing detailed models and participates in client model reviews.
  5. Prepares design calculations used in the discipline.
  6. Prepares bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline.
  7. Reviews calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned.
  8. Answers questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility.
  9. Compiles, maintains and accesses job drawing files, records, and drawing controls.
  10. Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
  11. Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Min. 5-10 Years of experience, Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques using SP 3D /Microstation, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline.

Familiarity with relevant design standards and guides, Skill in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.

Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities.

Basic Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes relevant to the discipline.

Knowledge and understanding of Raceway, lighting, grounding design and modelling, cable sizing.

General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.

Experience in using Navisworks for model review and clash detection, proficiency in SPR.

Extraction and preparation of material quantity take-offs from design drawings.

Able to work in a team and cross functional environment.        

Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.

 

Summary: Within one discipline plans and executes designs from basic data supplied.  Prepares drawings and/or constructs detailed scale models showing complete engineered systems, structures and plant arrangements.
