Job Summary:
In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SM2
Major Responsibilities:
Work Planning & Packaging:
- Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
- Facilitates planning construction methods and procedures.
Material Management:
- Initiates requisitions for field purchases
- Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
Quantities:
- Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
Safety / Quality Control:
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
Technical:
- Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities
System Turnover Coordinator:
For Direct Hire:
- Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
STR / Subcontract Coordinator:
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans,
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Advanced Civil/Structural Engineering Expertise:
- In-depth technical proficiency: Strong command of soil mechanics, structural design (steel and concrete), and geotechnical principles gained through practical, on-site applications.
- Code and standard expertise: Comprehensive understanding of relevant codes (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASTM) and ability to interpret and apply them accurately to project work.
Project Management and Coordination:
- Scheduling and planning: Proficiency in project scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) to forecast and manage timelines, resource allocation, and project milestones.
- Cost control and budgeting: Ability to understand, develop, and manage budgets, track project costs, and propose corrective actions for cost overruns.
- Risk management: Experience identifying potential project risks (e.g., site constraints, design changes, external factors) and developing mitigation strategies.
Field Leadership and Supervision:
- Team coordination: Demonstrated ability to lead or supervise small crews or subcontractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specifications.
- Mentorship: Guiding junior engineers, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement on site.
Construction Quality and Safety Management:
- Quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC): Experience developing and implementing inspection and testing plans, conducting root-cause analyses, and ensuring compliance with Bechtel’s quality standards.
- Safety leadership: Deep familiarity with OSHA (or local equivalents) regulations, proven track record of enforcing safety protocols, and managing jobsite safety programs.
Communication, Stakeholder Management, and Documentation:
- Cross-functional collaboration: Ability to liaise effectively with design engineers, procurement teams, clients, and subcontractors.
- Reporting and documentation: Advanced skills in writing field reports, change orders, and daily progress updates; proficiency in project documentation and record-keeping.
- Conflict resolution: Experience managing disputes or changes in scope by negotiating effectively with stakeholders.
Adaptability and Critical Thinking:
- Problem-solving: Proven capacity to analyze complex site issues, evaluate multiple solutions, and implement effective resolutions under tight deadlines.
- Flexibility: Experience handling changing project priorities and adapting to shifting requirements with minimal disruption to overall objectives.
Relevant, Progressive Field Experience:
- 5–8 years of direct experience in civil construction projects (infrastructure, industrial, or commercial).
- Demonstrated progression from entry-level tasks to more complex responsibilities (e.g., leading small teams or major project components).
Technical and Project Management Proficiency:
- Advanced use of engineering design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD, etc.) and scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, and cost effectively, including risk assessment and mitigation.
Strong Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:
- Evidence of successfully supervising or guiding junior staff, trade crews, or subcontractors.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
Safety and Quality Mindset:
- Track record of maintaining high safety standards, including the implementation of proactive measures and corrective actions.
- Clear understanding of QA/QC processes, standards, and documentation practices to uphold project quality.
Professional Credentials and Continuous Learning:
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred, depending on project location.
- Ongoing professional development (e.g., specialized certifications, safety training) and willingness to stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
Additional Considerations:
- Global/Remote Experience: Candidates with exposure to diverse project locations or international standards may have an advantage.
- Software and Digital Tools: Familiarity with digital twin concepts, Building Information Modeling (BIM), or advanced analytics can further distinguish mid-level professionals.
