Corporate Marketing and Business Development has the primary responsibility for identifying, evaluating and recommending new business opportunities for Bechtel.  The Marketing & Business Development function will be the corporate-level base group for Bechtel's business development professionals investing in talent development, work practice implementation, team engagement, diversity and inclusion.  We support our global business units as they work to expand their impact with customers and achieve goals for new work.       

 

Role Overview

 

The Business Development Manager, Corporate will lead in prospecting and networking in regions and market segments where Bechtel does not have a strong presence with a particular focus on Supply Chain and/or Grid Resilience.The ideal candidate will have the ability to flex from the strategic to the tactical and have competence dealing with both external customers and internal senior leadership.  The Business Development Manager will possess the following leadership behaviors aligned with Bechtel’s Behavioral Framework:

Job Duties:

  • Works with the Corporate Manager to achieve objectives and build our company for the long term.
  • Duties will range from owning, leading and/or supporting the development, implementation and performance management of BGI, GBU, business line and regions strategies,
  • Identifies and grows new business opportunities to compliment the BGI portfolio in the Mid (3-5 year) and Long Term (5+ year).  Coordinates across the GBUs to identify opportunities and to recommend engagement plans in coordination with BGI and GBU executives.
  • Utilizes evaluations of competitor actions and counter actions with and for the GBUs. 
  • Stays abreast of development activity and strategy of competitors including their pricing trends, policies, awards, and losses.
  • Employs a thorough knowledge of business development, planning, and implementation to improve the GBU and BGI positioning within the market and awareness of our value proposition 
  • Synthesizes input from the Operating Committee and supports the BGI strategic planning process – Spring Review, July OC offsite, OC deep dive topics, etc. as well as capture action list from Business Reviews for follow up with GBU’s
  • Actively engages externally.  Builds, Maintains, and improves relationships with clients, prospective clients and other external stakeholders.
  • Is visible and available to support the GBUs, Bechtel Enterprises, the BD community, Corporate Security, the Regional Presidents, and the Corporate Relations team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • Graduate degree (MBA or equivalent) in business administration with a bachelor’s degree in a related field.  
  • 10 years’ experience in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction industry.  15 years’ experience highly desired.
  • 10 years’ experience in project delivery at Bechtel, ideally in one or more GBUs.
  • Experience leading teams through influence and authority (direct and indirect leadership)
  • Demonstrated ability and experience using consulting methodology to diagnose organizational effectiveness issues and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and initiatives, including developing project plans, identifying stakeholders, preparing corresponding communication plans, identifying milestones, deadlines, and metrics to assess outcomes/results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity while attending to multiple stakeholders, a variety of concurrent projects, and firm deadlines.
