Project Description

Multi-year UK nuclear infrastructure programme for which Bechtel will provide PMO (including Project, Engineering, Commercial and Construction Management) services. This programme involves a multi—billion investment in nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.

The BIM Manager will report to the Project Information Manager and, via a matrix reporting line, to the GBU Functional Manager of IS&T.

Role Overview

  • Ensures the Project BIM Strategy and BEP is aligned and executed in alignment with the Project Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Assigns the key roles on the Project identified in the BEP.
  • Ensures the implementation of the Building Information Model for use across each stage of the Project.
  • Maintains continuous contact with key functional leads across the programme, including Engineering, Project Controls, Contracts, Construction, and Client stakeholders, to monitor the implementation of BIM.
  • Works closely with the project functional teams to understand the information requirements (both graphical and non-graphical) and align the BEP to meet those needs.
  • Works closely with the customer IT department on the deployment of automation tools, identifying user groups, and ensuring the integration of the various software tools through the Common Data Environment (CDE). 
  • Develops and implements the Project BIM Strategy and BEP through the design, procurement and construction phases, and handover to end users.
  • Receives and understands the client information requirements and coordinates with Project functional teams to develop the execution scope packages (ESP) in alignment with client requirements and other Project stakeholders.
  • Champions the use of the CDE as the single source of truth for all project data and the key tools for project execution including 3D/4D/5D deployment.
  • Works with all departments to establish standards for BIM execution, including any required procedure and contract changes, and a standard BIM library for use by design and construction contractors for developing BIM models
  • Provides input into the design requirements including the level of detail and data attributes required to support the required outputs through the phases of the Project.
  • Ensures the implementation of the CDE, including relevant standards on its use and application across projects.
  • Coordination with Project Controls and Construction on the development of advanced work packages and ensuring the continuity and appropriate level of detail is produced to support each of the Project phases.
  • Reviews the Procurement and Contracts tender documents used for the supply chain to ensure BIM capabilities are assessed and aligned to the Building Information Model.
  • Develops the BIM automation plan.
  • Reviews Functional Project Procedures to ensure alignment with BEP.
  • Ensures adequate training is provided on the use of the Building Information Model and associated tools to assist its deployment, including engagement with off-Project subject matter experts.
  • Conducts regular Assessments to review the implementation of the BEP and level of BIM maturity achieved on projects, and to seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensures projects meet the client information requirements and industry wide standards (i.e. PAS 1192 for UK projects).
  • Champions innovation across the programme by establishing a culture for ideas and improvement opportunities to be raised, considered and implemented. Continually seeks ways in which the Building Information Model can be utilized to support the Project and drive efficiency in processes.
  • Liaises with GBU and Corporate Innovation teams on the development and deployment of new initiatives and technologies.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience of working across EPC functions or a strong Project-led understanding of cross-functional EPC work processes and the applications used for Project execution
  • The candidate will have extensive experience across the whole delivery cycle (concept, prelim, detailed design, construction, start-up, handover) gained over more than one project and have specific experience in a BIM/VPD related role

Minimum Qualifications

  • The position is open to United Kingdom (UK) Nationals only.  UK/US dual citizens may be considered. 
  • This position is also subject to a successful interview and agreement upon terms and conditions of employment.  Candidate must be able to obtain an SC security clearance.
  • Experience with BIM and CAD tools and methodologies.
  • Will have worked as BIM Manager on at least one project of capital value >£500M
  • In-depth knowledge of Construction Operations Building information exchange (COBie).
  • Advanced skills in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, AutoCAD or other 4D BIM applications.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • UK Nuclear/Defence site experience.
  • Will have worked as BIM Manager on at least one UK infrastructure project adopting a PMC delivery model
  • Knowledge and capability with Bentley AECosim and Synchro.
  • Experience facilitating multi-discipline meetings to resolve technical and related requirements compliance issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain SC--Security Clearance
