Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SM2
Major Responsibilities:
- On a medium to large (PFE Tier I - <$250m) job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section.
- Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
- Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
- Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
- Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.

- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Extensive Construction Engineering Knowledge:
- Solid grounding in construction engineering principles and practices for medium- to large-scale projects (ideally data center or similar industrial projects).
- Familiarity with applicable local codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multi-discipline engineering teams, including staffing and performance management.
- Capacity to motivate, delegate, and provide constructive feedback to ensure project objectives are met.
Work Planning & Coordination:
- Proven track record in planning and packaging work scopes, sequencing tasks, and coordinating schedules among various stakeholders (design, procurement, field teams, and subcontractors).
- Proficiency in interpreting design documents, managing drawings and specifications, and reconciling field engineering activities with project requirements.
Project Controls & Automation:
- Strong experience with quantity take-off, tracking, forecasting, and cost control.
- Working knowledge of construction automation tools, project controls software, and 3D modeling to support progress tracking and reporting.
- Ability to generate and interpret data-driven insights for strategic decision-making (e.g., performance analysis, manpower curves).
Contract & Subcontract Administration:
- Experience in preparing, reviewing, and managing subcontracts, including submittals, invoices, change orders, and field change documentation.
- Skilled at risk identification, resolution of commercial issues, and effective negotiation with subcontractors.
Safety & Quality Assurance:
- Deep understanding of on-site safety protocols, zero-accident philosophy, and quality requirements, ensuring compliance in all operational areas.
- Familiarity with environmental control plans, inspection/test plans, and QA/QC processes.
System Turnover & Completions:
- Knowledge of system turnover requirements, including walkdowns, punch list management, and final documentation.
- Experience integrating turnover data with scheduling/estimating tools and advanced work packaging (AWP).
Effective Communication & Stakeholder Management:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with all project participants.
Relevant Experience in Large-Scale Projects:
- Field engineering experience on similar-sized (or larger) industrial or data center projects.
- Demonstrated success in managing multi-discipline teams and complex scopes of work.
Leadership & Team Oversight:
- Proven track record of supervising construction or field engineering teams, including performance management and professional development.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional efforts and mentor emerging talent.
Technical & Automation Proficiency:
- Hands-on experience with scheduling, quantity tracking, cost control systems, and advanced construction automation tools.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and AWP processes to integrate design and field execution.
Contract/Subcontract Management Skills:
- Experience in reviewing, negotiating, and administering subcontracts, including handling change orders and commercial issues.
- Evidence of risk management and problem-solving abilities in a subcontract environment.
Educational Background & Safety Orientation:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong commitment to zero-incident safety culture and quality compliance.
