The various tasks performed by Bechtel's Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) group demand detail-oriented individuals with multi-faceted skills, in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, enthusiasm for individual and team tasks, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
The total number of interns and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions.
Job Summary:
This position will allow you to work in multi-disciplinary teams to perform assignments that will develop professional working knowledge and abilities through application of applicable codes and standards, as well as engineering calculations and techniques, procedures and criteria. You will use limited, but increasing, judgment in performing your assigned duties using methods prescribed by your supervisor.
Major Responsibilities:
Typical Activities of a Geotechnical Engineer:
- Provide field support for subsurface investigations, field testing programs, and earthworks
- Develop analytical calculations such as bearing capacity, deep foundation design, and liquefaction analysis
- Perform numerical modeling to analyze slope stability, settlement, and deflections
- Draft technical specifications and geotechnical reports
- Participate in site visits and meetings with project personnel and clients
Education and Experience Requirements:
Basic Qualifications
- Master's or doctoral degree within Civil Engineering at an accredited college or university
- Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US through US citizenship, permanent residency, or valid US student visa
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous co-op or internship experience
- Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
