Industrial/Systems engineering interns work with multi-disciplinary engineers to provide support to the project's systems engineering team throughout the lifecycle of the project (design through commissioning testing).

 

The total number of hires and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and may include Houston, TX or Reston, VA, along with various project sites.

 

General Job Duties

This position will allow you to perform assignments that will develop professional working knowledge and abilities through the application of applicable codes and standards, as well as engineering calculations and techniques, procedures and criteria. You will exercise limited, but increasing, judgment in performing your assigned duties using methods prescribed by your supervisor.

 

Typical Activities

  • assisting in developing functional/system analysis to define facility/system design requirements;
  • assisting in establishing the means of verifying requirements implementation, including acceptance criteria;
  • assisting in the preparation of system and facility design criteria documents;
  • supporting system-level design verification, requirements verification, test requirements specification, and requirements flowdown and traceability;
  • assisting the preparation of assessments to validate and verify implementation and traceability of requirements into design;
  • participating in technical discussions to resolve system design issues;
  • researching and documenting system operations and limits from the review of design and basis documents and from discussions with system designers; and
  • performing model-based systems engineering using a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) automation tool (e.g., IBM® Rationale DOORS® or Innoslate by Spec Innovations)

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year program within Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Completed at least one year of relevant coursework
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree within Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
