The various tasks performed by Bechtel's Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) group demand detail-oriented individuals with multi-faceted skills, in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, enthusiasm for individual and team tasks, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.

 

The total number of interns and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions.   Locations will vary based on the project needs, and may include Houston, TX, Reston, VA, or various project sites.

 

General Job Duties

This position will allow you to work in multi-disciplinary teams to perform assignments that will develop professional working knowledge and abilities through application of applicable codes and standards, as well as engineering calculations and techniques, procedures and criteria.  You will use limited, but increasing, judgment in performing your assigned duties using methods prescribed by your supervisor.

 

Typical Activities of an Earthquake Engineer:

  • Provide field support for subsurface investigations
  • Develop analytical calculations such as seismic hazard assessments and seismic site response
  • Perform numerical modeling for probabilistic seismic hazard assessments and soil-structure interaction analyses
  • Draft technical specifications and reports
  • Participate in site visits and meetings with project personnel and clients

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year program within Civil Engineering at an accredited college or university or currently pursuing a graduate degree in Civil Engineering
  • Completed at least three years of undergraduate studies in the above field
  • Interested in pursuing a graduate degree in the above field, if not already enrolled
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US through US citizenship, permanent residency, or valid US student visa
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous co-op or internship experience
  • Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
